Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Sales Executive based in Germany to cover a portfolio of academic, governmental and medical institutions in the DACH region. The focus of the role is identifying and growing new business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You will be generating new leads and maintaining existing business by developing relationships with librarians, faculty leaders and researchers. Exciting products will be in your portfolio; Taylor & Francis Journals & Taylor & Francis Open Access initiatives (Open Research). You will expand our growing Online product and Open Access product lines and maintain an awareness of the business within a competitive trading environment.

We believe that great things happen when people connect face-to-face. That's why we work in-person with each other, or with customers and partners, three days a week or more. This role will be based remotely but will require frequent travel both in Germany and internationally as required, for example to attend team meetings, congresses, customer onsite meetings etc.

This role is open to candidates based in Germany. You must have the right to live and work in Germany.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Relationship management of a portfolio of customers, building a deep understanding of the customer, market and specific needs to provide a tailored sales service to drive the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction
2. Planning, scheduling and carrying out online and onsite meetings with key individuals within institutional organizations to close adoption business and other sales opportunities within DACH, using consultative selling techniques and offering bespoke and added value solutions to maximize sales opportunities
3. Analyse sales figures, run reports, maintain our adoption database and communicate with colleagues in the sales, marketing and editorial departments on a daily basis
4. Monitoring sales of key adoptions to ensure relevant sell through is achieved, highlighting any underperforming, and taking relevant action to rectify this
5. Accurate and timely maintenance of CRM systems
6. Liaising with colleagues in other sales teams (field-based and internal) to ensure information is provided effectively to achieve appropriate stockholding and sell-through
7. Building and maintaining effective external and internal relationship, building profile and understanding of the Journal & Open Research sales strategy across the wider business and externally where appropriate
8. Developing alternative routes to market, including direct sales for digital content as appropriate, ensuring any direct commercial deals are consistent with the overall sales strategy in the market
9. Updating the Sales manager by the provision of reports on sales activities and bring to their attention any problems/challenges with recommendations for resolution
10. Preparing for, attending, and contributing to sales meetings to build product knowledge, strategic awareness and to gather market relevant intelligence

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

11. Be a self-motivated, independent and organised individual with a passion for working in a sales environment
12. Have a proven track record of success in a sales or business development role
13. Have excellent communication and negotiation skills
14. Have strong organisation and time management skills
15. Have an excellent commercial outlook with the ability to make recommendations to support sales targets
16. Have a passion for maintaining excellent customer satisfaction and service
17. Be fluent in English and German

A passion for (and/or knowledge of ) working in Journals Sales within the academic and governmental field is highly desirable. In your covering letter please outline why you are specifically interested in working in the academic publishing field and what transferable skills you would bring to the role.
