Job Vacancy: Video Journalist for West Germany - AFPTV

AFPTV is seeking a motivated Video Journalist for a full-time position in our Frankfurt bureau, starting in July 2026. The role will involve the following main duties:
1. Covering news developments across Germany;
2. Editing (“desking”) AFPTV content as well as material from external sources in Germany and, when required, from Eastern Europe;
3. Contributing to the coordination of video coverage in Germany in collaboration with other contributors.
In addition, the successful candidate will shoot and edit news stories and features, as well as produce live streams, with a particular focus on the western part of Germany. They will also help coordinating our video coverage and help manage and develop our network of freelancers. They’ll provide video training within the bureau when needed.
Reporting to AFPTV editors in London, as well as the Berlin bureau chief, the news editor and video coordinator, the selected candidate will bring strong skills in setting up, shooting, scripting, voicing and editing both news and feature packages, along with the ability to produce high-quality b-roll edits.
The role will involve regular travel across Germany and, occasionally, elsewhere in Europe and worldwide, depending on the agency’s needs.
The job will be based in AFP’s Frankfurt office, working closely with four text reporters and one photographer in a multilingual environment (French, English and German).
The AFPTV team in Germany currently consists of four journalists: a coordinator and two video journalists based in Berlin, one video journalist in Munich, and one in Frankfurt. They are supported by a network of freelancers whom the team helps manage.
Working hours are flexible, as they depend on the news cycle. Like all AFP journalists, the Frankfurt-based VJ is regularly required to work weekends, either to cover scheduled shifts or to respond to breaking news.
When required, the successful candidate will also be responsible for sending advisories and keeping our editorial agenda and coverage plans up to date (IRIS 360).
They will be expected to uphold the credibility and reliability of AFP’s coverage, while strictly adhering to the Agency’s editorial standards and copyright guidelines.
Candidates should be comfortable using social media as a news-gathering tool, including sourcing user-generated content and applying AFP’s editorial rules governing its use.
In a rapidly evolving media landscape, the role may evolve in line with changing coverage priorities and the needs of an increasingly diverse client base.
