For the expansion of our German commercial legal team, argenx is looking for a Legal Counsel Germany.
PURPOSE OF THE FUNCTION
We are looking for a Legal Counsel Germany, to support the rapid growth of our German business. While the focus is primarily on Legal matters, there is the possibility to support local Compliance topics. Additionally, the role will also be the legal business partner for global and regional commercialization teams. The successful candidate should have subject matter expertise that is relevant for the company globally and will have also the opportunity to be involved in projects outside of Germany. The role will operationally be managed by and primarily work with the Legal Lead for Germany, while at this stage formally reporting to the Head of Legal GER & DM.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Legal Counsel Germany will be part of the global Legal Compliance and IP (LCIP) team and a key member of the global and GER & Developed Markets commercial law team as well as of the German country business team. This role serves as a close business partner and facilitator of the business activities and is expected to contribute to help build and grow the business. The Legal Counsel Germany will play a critical role across the product life cycle and will be a key advisor and enabler of successful product launches and commercialization at a global, regional and country level. The role will partner closely with colleagues across functions within Germany, the Global Commercialization Community and with the Compliance and Legal team across the globe. In close collaboration with Legal colleagues, this role is responsible for high quality and timely guidance in all areas of the business, including medical, commercial, market access, regulatory, and distribution and will have subject matter expertise in areas such as promotion, market access, commercial contracting, competition law, as well as other areas of drug commercialization. The role will actively lead and contribute to legal projects, issues, and priorities across the global Legal and Compliance function.
Your primary areas of focus are:
1. Represent Legal as a strong business partner that helps build a strong and sustainable business and enables risk-appropriate decision-making
2. Provide strategic, tactical and operational legal and business insight on the commercial launch of argenx product candidates
3. Advise on programs, initiatives, engagements, and materials, related to sales, marketing, market access, non-promotional education activities, patient engagement and scientific exchange
4. Identify training needs within the organization and develop and present training sessions on relevant laws and legal/business issues
5. Stay abreast of and communicate to the organization all significant pending and actual decisions, legislation or related developments that may affect the company
6. Provide advice and legal support on application and maintenance of all authorizations, permits, licenses and communication needed for local operations, including distribution and marketing of products
7. Assess, supervise and manage external legal counsel as appropriate and in line with available budgets
8. Closely coordinate with argenx Compliance colleagues
9. Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
10. Broad based knowledge of general commercial law and regulatory law impacting the pharmaceutical industry
11. First-rate judgment and business acumen, including understanding of business strategy and operations
12. Fluent in German and English; other language skills preferred
13. Experience in specialty markets, particularly rare diseases, preferred
14. Highly analytical; uses data to support decisions; can clearly communicate complex ideas in a simple way to diverse audiences
15. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively together within cross-functional teams and networks
16. Demonstrated communication skills, within a multi-cultural and multi-lingual global environment

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
23. German law degree and license to practice law
24. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in biotech/pharma, ideally experience in roles serving as the legal business partner at an international level

The annual base salary hiring range for this position is €120,000.00 - €165,000.00 EUR
This job is eligible to participate in our short-term and long-term incentives program.
The hiring range displayed above is the range of possible base pay compensation that argenx believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting. The hiring range is based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range depends on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, prior education and experience, job-related knowledge and demonstrated skills. argenx may pay more or less than the posted range and this range may be modified in the future.
