Commissioning Manager – BESS

Overview We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead the commissioning phase of a utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Hamm, Germany. The role involves coordinating OEMs, EPC contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead & Coordinate OEM Commissioning Activities
• Develop and maintain a commissioning execution plan covering all OEM scopes
• Coordinate OEM teams including mobilisation, meetings, and toolbox talks
• Review commissioning procedures, RAMS, and permits
• Ensure commissioning activities follow approved procedures with full documentation
• Identify and resolve site issues impacting commissioning
2. Interface Management – Company, EPC & OEMs
• Establish commissioning interface matrix
• Develop integrated schedules and lookahead plans
• Lead coordination meetings and track actions
• Manage RFIs, NCRs, and change requests
• Ensure smooth handover from construction to operations
3. Commissioning Quality Assurance & Control • Manage commissioning documentation and ensure alignment with standards
• Witness key tests including functional, safety, and grid compliance
• Track defects and ensure closure
• Verify BESS subsystems prior to energisation
• Deliver final commissioning documentation package
4. Commissioning Schedule Management & Delivery • Support development of commissioning schedule and milestones
• Track progress using KPIs and reports
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
• Coordinate re-tests and defect resolution
• Ensure achievement of key milestones including energisation and SAT Key Requirements • Experience as Commissioning Manager within BESS or power projects
• Strong knowledge of battery systems, grid integration, and electrical commissioning
• Experience managing EPCs, OEMs, and stakeholders
• Knowledge of German regulations desirable Language Requirements • English (Fluent)
• German (Preferred)
