Job Description Take full ownership of our core backend applications, defining and communicating a “north star” for a scalable, performant architecture capable of handling complex business logic. Guide the team through complex technical challenges, like rewriting a large-scale, custom-built middleware, by breaking projects down into incremental, manageable steps. Partner with the Product Lead to balance the roadmap between mission-critical business features and technical goals such as reducing technical debt and moving toward standardized technologies. Challenge business requirements and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure both technical sustainability and commercial value are addressed. Mentor and coach Backend Engineers to simplify system complexity while growing their skills and advancing their careers. Lead the hiring and onboarding of engineering talent capable of navigating legacy-to-modern transitions. Serve as the primary technical contact for the unit, ensuring continuous alignment on shared backend architecture, API schemas, and integration contracts. Research and propose modern technologies—particularly in message queuing, data normalization, and observability.
