Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) is seeking candidates for a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor position in the Garden City District Office. This office assist persons with disabilities to attain their employment, educational, and/or independent living goals. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Develop training curricula in conjunction with the training unit team and assist other ACCES-VR units as needed to prepare and present trainings;
•Work as part of the training unit team to keep learning materials up to date;
•Work closely with various stakeholder groups including, but not limited to, district office staff, central office staff, data unit, IT and FAST for the development and implementation of curricula, training materials, and resources;
•Deliver trainings and/or develop a train-the trainer process for the implementation of trainings;
•Become familiar with state and federal regulations to ensure that trainings, training materials and any learning instruments accurately reflect these;
•Provide ongoing support and technical assistance to staff related to Aware functions;
•Work with the district offices in the region covered to ensure that new staff/interns are identified, and the on-boarding process is in place;
•Present trainings in-person, remote virtually and through pre-recorded videos to ACCES-VR staff and other stake holders as needed;
•Responsible for ensuring that any training materials are presented in accessible formats;
•Will supervise interns and practicum students from master’s programs in Rehabilitation Counseling;
•Travel will be up to 75%.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must be a current New York State Education Department employee AND have had one year of permanent competitive or 55b/55c service as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (Manual Communications), or Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (Spanish Language). Provisional candidates must take the examination for Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.
Employees of ACCES-VR who are currently in a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor position and are interested in transferring to the location indicated on this flyer MUST apply for the position as outlined in the Application section of this flyer.
