Beschreibung

At the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics we know our technologies like the back of our hand. Because we are one of the few scientific institutions worldwide to conduct research along the entire semiconductor value chain and on tailer-made synthetic diamonds. Whether high-frequency circuits for communications technology, voltage converter modules for electromobility, laser systems for measurement processes, or innovative hardware and software for quantum computers and quantum sensors: we develop tomorrow's technology in-house for a sustainable and secure society. When will you join us?

In the field of quantum technology, the institute is working on the realization of a quantum computer based on color centers in diamond. We use nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers as qubits, which are created during diamond growth via micorwave-assisted CVD, and characterized and controlled using in-house experimental set-ups.

The purpose of this Master thesis opportunity is to establish and further develop a measurement and analysis chain for the quantative stress analysis NV-doped diamond by carrying out and evaluating ODMR measurements and linking them with suitable models in order to determine local stress components and inhomogeneities in diamond structures. The goal is to quantify stress as a quality and process parameter for the fabrication and optimization of diamond samples and structures for quantum technologies.

What you will do

* conduct and optimize ODMR measurements on NV centers (e.g. using confocal microscopy)
* develop measurement protocols for stress mapping (e.g. angle/polarization dependencies, magnetic field configurations, reference measurements)
* evaluate ODMR spectra and derive local stress parameters
* implement and document analysis workflows in Python (automation, visualization of stress maps, reproducible pipelines)

What you bring to the table

* enrolled as a student in the field of physics, microsystems technology or a comparable discipline
* programming skills in Python (ideally for data anlysis, fitting and plotting workflows)
* good language skills in German or English
* enjoyment of experimental and scientific work
* team spirit, open-mindedness and motivation to work independantly and goal-oriented

What you can expect

* modern laboratory equipment in a new laboratory building
* on-site support from experts
* flexible time management that fits your studies
* collaboration in an interdisciplinary team, including working on current projects with clear objectives
* an open and team-oriented corporate culture that offers you the opportunity to contribute your own ideas
* diverse and exciting tasks in the environment of an internationally renowned research institution
* Frelo station (bike renting system) and parking spaces with charging stations

The position is initally limited to 12 months. The monthly working time is 40 hours. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Remuneration according to the general works agreement for employing assistant staff.

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.

Interested? Apply online now. We look forward to getting to know you!
