For our Legal division in London we are looking to hire a:
Legal Counsel
Your role in the team
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and talented Legal Counsel to join the legal team at Berenberg's London Branch. This is a key position reporting directly to the London based team head of Berenberg’s Corporate Centre Legal UK, with a diverse workload encompassing general commercial as well as equities and investment banking business - related legal work in a fast-paced environment. The role is based onsite at our London Branch offices.
What will you do?
As a key member of the in-house legal team, you will provide comprehensive support across a range of business areas. Your primary focus will be on UK general commercial law, equities business (in particular trading and research) and related regulatory matters. This means:
* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of documentation, including but not limited to broker terms and conditions, client contracts, research agreements, terms of business, commission sharing agreements as well as general commercial agreements.
* Supporting internal stakeholders such as the Events, IT and Procurement teams in London.
* Acting as a contact point for UK law related matters for the wider in-house legal team.
* Engaging regularly with various internal functions including Compliance, HR, Tax, IT, Middle Office, and Operations to provide timely legal guidance and advice.
* Providing oversight and expert advice on a variety of regulatory issues with a particular focus on the equities business.
* Coordinating with external legal advisors to ensure high-quality, cost-effective legal advice is received when required.
Who are we looking for?
* Legally qualified in England and Wales with a range of 2-4 years PQE.
* An equivalent background in a top tier law firm
* Good experience working in a busy legal team would be advantageous.
* Ideally the individual should have experience supporting a financial institution, specifically the equities and the investment banking business from a legal perspective.
* High level of diligence, discipline, and integrity.
* Experience of liaising with other departments during the negotiation process of a contract and taking instructions from the business and other functions.
