Hauptaufgaben
Conducts visual inspections of engines, bodies, chassis, exhaust systems, fuel systems, coupling devices, landing gear, tires, brakes, wiring, cargo areas, lights, reflectors, and tarpaulins. Inspections are to detect obvious physical defects and discrepancies, such as leaking lubricants, signs of breakage, malfunctions, improper adjustment and insecure mountings and adaptations. Determines chemical protective equipment requirements for specific loads. Ensures proper loading, weight distribution, compatibility of ammunition, and adherence to hazardous cargo requirements. Verifies presence of required safety equipment (warning devices, placards, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, protective clothing). Ensures that in- and outgoing conveyances are loaded in accordance with applicable drawings, weight distribution recommendations and/or limitations, maximum gross weight allowances and compatibility of ammunition and explosives, and that hazardous cargo safety requirements, such as tie down or blocking procedures, etc. are met. Ensures that conveyances are equipped with respective highway warning equipment, Hazardous Cargo Placards, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and protective clothing and equipment. Briefs vehicle operators on safety requirements and provides safety brief to all customer unit personnel of prohibited items and activities before they enter the Ammunition Supply Area's perimeter. Briefs motor vehicle operators on pertinent and current safety requirements and standards. Rejects vehicles not meeting the required standards for mechanical safety or proper loading, and refers them to the appropriate section for corrective action. Rejects unsafe vehicles and coordinates corrective actions. Notifies Supervisor in case of shipping damages or indications of sabotage.
Periodically performs special inspections on containers to identify defects. Ensures that defects are repaired, and performs re-inspections.
Issue and Receipt of Ammunition.
(a). Issue of Ammunition:
Receives and reviews "stores slip" (DA 3151) and other supply documents from front desk personnel. Prepares ammunition to be issued at least 2 days ahead to ensure a smooth pick-up by the customer unit. Gathers additional ammunition other locations to be issued to the unit. Notes discrepancies, such as incorrect nomenclatures, lot numbers, and quantities, and notifies supervisor of discrepancies that need to be corrected. Ensures that loading and storage areas are secured according to established safety and security provisions, and informs supervisor of pertinent deficiencies. Checks boxes, containers, and pallets for obvious physical damage and obtains from supervisor directives for the further disposition of damaged items.
- Escorts unit personnel to ammunition storage location, and directs the picking of ammunition. Ensures a second independent count is conducted by another ASA employee to ensure 100% accountability of all ammunition being issued. Initiates the palletizing, strapping, and marking of ammunition boxes. Assists with making any light boxes that must be prepared for the issue. Ensures that light boxes are secured in accordance with applicable standing operating procedures. Sorts ammunition according to vehicle being loaded on, considering the compatibility of individual ammunition items. Ensures that available trailers, trucks, MILVANs, are loaded in accordance with established procedures, considering loading capacities, compatibility of ammunition, and similar factors. Ensures proper blocking and bracing of all items loaded. Ensures unit personnel properly secure ammunition to vehicle, and placards are attached as directed from the front office personnel. Escorts unit personnel back to operations where the issue process will be completed.
(b). Receipt of Ammunition (turn-in process):
Receives "stores slip" (DA 3151) from inspection line personnel. Conducts inventory to ensure counts are correct IAW the stores slip. Sorts ammunition according to vehicle being loaded on, considering the compatibility of individual ammunition items. Ensures unit personnel properly secure ammunition to vehicle, and placards are attached as directed from the inspection line personnel. As annotated on supply documents, returns additional ammunition to other locations.
- Ensures that safety and security provisions are adhered to during work operations. Directs the return of ammunition and ensures that light boxes are secured in accordance with applicable standing operating procedures. Assists with preparing and marking light boxes as necessary. Notes discrepancies, such as incorrect nomenclatures, lot numbers, and quantities, and notifies supervisor of discrepancies that need to be corrected. Ensures that loading and storage areas are secured according to established safety and security provisions. Informs supervisor of pertinent deficiencies. Checks boxes, containers, and pallets for obvious physical damage and obtains guidance from supervisor for the further disposition of damaged items. Initiates correction of minor discrepancies, or requests inspections of turn ins by surveillance personnel. Ensures that a second independent count is conducted by another ASA employee to ensure 100% accountability of all ammunition being turned-in.
- Assists US military troops during upload exercises and checks ammunition and related material returned by using units for incompatible items. Escorts unit personnel back to operations where the process will be completed.
Ammunition storage and administrative tasks.
Monitors the accomplishment of storage, inspection and re-warehousing operations to include repacking, re-stenciling, and re-palletizing of all conventional ammunition items to ensure adherence to pertinent regulations, guidelines, and operating procedures. Informs military key personnel and ASA leadership of discrepancies detected. Performs administrative work related to the physical inventory of training ammunition turned in by using units. Participates in Quarterly, cyclic and special inventories.
Prepares required forms and documentation. Reviews technical manuals and loading drawings for newly fielded equipment. Develops inspection procedures with supervisor approval. Maintains technical reference files and inspection records. Updates technical reference files. Enters and maintains inspection records. Generates reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.

• The position requires completion of specific job-related training that must be completed within a specific period of time after appointment to a position. Successful completion of mandatory training becomes a condition for continued employment and progression within the occupation. The training is offered during workhours and paid for by the employer:
• Basic training such as HazMat training (HAZ 12 "Technical Transportation of Hazardous Materials TTHM" and HAZ 15 "European Hazardous Material Certification Course, Road and Rail") as well as follow up training are required.
• Must also complete other required training for this position in accordance with U.S. Army regulations to include Ammo 45 "Introduction to Ammunition", Ammo 63 "U.S. Army Explosives Safety Familiarization", Ammo 64 "Class V Issue and Turn in Procedures for Using Units", Ammo 67 "Hazardous Materials Familiarization and Safety in Transportation", and Ammo 68 "Military Munitions Rule".
