Our publishing team focuses on supporting authors to develop powerful editorial products that will make an impact on our many audiences.You will be based in Germany (Duesseldorf or Munich) as part of our local Editing & Publishing team, directly reporting to the Director of Reputation and Communication Germany and Austria.At McKinsey, publishing is a tradition. As a senior editor, you will become fluent in McKinsey’s production-related processes and resources, with strong editing, fact-checking, and content management support to build publishing efforts. You’ll engage and inspire colleagues through your thought-partnership and leadership skills to advance the firm’s publishing objectives.You will manage editorial publications and programs, coordinating with relevant McKinsey publishing groups and stakeholders, to ensure projects are completed, approved, produced, and published to meet tight deadline requirements. You’ll act as a thought-partner and service provider (e.g., line editor), working with McKinsey authors (i.e., typically senior consultants and industry/functional experts) to create publishing strategies that advance cell and firm objectives, develop persuasive storylines, and write compelling drafts. In collaboration with authors and other stakeholders, you will shape content copy (e.g., PowerPoint presentation, outline, speaker notes) into a range of editorial products (e.g., articles, white papers, reports, blog posts, podcasts, videos, tweets). You will review, and edit content that rigorously follow conventions of written German and English and ensure consistency of voice/tone/style and alignment with firm style and risk/reputation guidelines, playing an advisory role with authors in discussion and development of changes.You will be expected to clearly communicate with internal and external teams and relevant McKinsey leadership in support of an increasing volume of editorial projects; lead projects/workstreams independently or with designated team, aligning with key stakeholders as relevant, advancing relevant goals for publishing. You will stay up-to-date on business news and trends, as well as the firm’s research, to ensure communications are in touch with current public discussion/research and aligned with the firm’s position. You may be asked to support entry-level and junior editors as part of their and your career development. You must be able to independently manage freelance/agency resources related to your own projects.
