The Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Infrastructure and Geothermal Energy IEG conducts research at seven locations in the fields of integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal energy, and sector coupling for
a successful energy transition. Our research institute conducts applied research, develops innovative technologies for public and industrial clients, and translates these into
marketable products and processes.
At Fraunhofer IEG, engineers in the field of “process engineering” are working to advance the energy transition in industrial processes. The aim is to replace fossil raw materials and integrate sustainable energy sources into industrial value chains.
To this end, we develop processes, components, and plants – from laboratory test benches to the integration of new thermodynamic or material processes into existing large-scale plants. Our work ranges from conception and design to dimensioning, construction, commissioning, and optimization of plant operation.
As an interface between science and industry, we evaluate technical and economic feasibility, operate our own test facilities, and develop simulation models and control concepts for complex systems. Our areas of expertise include thermodynamic storage and converters, heat pumps, binary power plant processes, water desalination, gas processing, and integration into district heating systems.
For our team at the Bochum site, we offer the opportunity to participate in the further development and implementation of these technologies as part of a master's thesis.
