We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Purchasing to lead our procurement function at a dynamic and innovative Tier One automotive supplier. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and execution of purchasing strategies to support our production and business objectives, with a strong focus on plastic components. This role requires a proven leader with deep knowledge of the automotive supply chain and fluency in both German and English.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and optimize purchasing strategies aligned with company goals, with a focus on cost, quality, and supply security.
* Lead and manage the purchasing team across direct and indirect procurement functions.
* Negotiate and manage key supplier contracts, ensuring compliance, quality standards, and long-term strategic partnerships.
* Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers, particularly in the field of plastic components, tools, and raw materials.
* Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, production, and finance departments to align purchasing decisions with project and budget requirements.
* Monitor market trends and risks affecting supply chains, particularly raw material pricing and availability.
* Drive cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement processes across the procurement function.
* Report on KPIs and performance metrics, ensuring transparency and accountability within the department.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
* Minimum 8–10 years of experience in purchasing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the automotive industry.
* Proven experience in procurement of plastic components (injection molding, tooling, materials).
* Deep understanding of Tier One automotive supplier requirements, quality standards, and logistics.
* Strong negotiation skills and strategic mindset.
* Fluent in both German and English (written and spoken) – a must.
* Proficient with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced knowledge of procurement tools and analytics.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
