We are seeking:

for Media Theory
with a focus on artificial intelligence
Your responsibilities:
The successful candidate covers the field of media theory in research and teaching across the entire spectrum, with a focus on artificial intelligence, and contributes to the development of a distinctive media theory, also in connection with cultural studies and philosophy. Furthermore, the professorship provides innovative perspectives on research into emerging media and teaches media theory at the intersection of social, cultural, and technological contexts. The central task of the professorship is to develop an internationally renowned and networked research and teaching program in media theory and AI research. The tasks include teaching in the media and cultural studies programs of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Siegen (also in English), collaborating on the development of an internationally oriented curriculum, and developing Critical AI Studies. The successful candidate will also be expected to actively participate in the establishment of new research networks and to demonstrate a willingness to engage constructively in the university’s self-governing bodies.
The teaching load is 9 hours per week.

Your profile:
1. You fulfill the legal employment requirements of § 36 Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia. More information on these requirements can be found at service.uni-siegen.de/prof
2. You have a relevant doctorate in media studies or, alternatively, cultural studies, with a grade of at least very good or magna cum laude.
3. You have made excellent contributions to theory formation in media studies and to theory of media as well as excellent contributions to critical AI studies or, alternatively, to the theory of artificial intelligence. In addition, you have successfully acquired competitive research funding and have experience in conducting third-party funded projects at external universities, ideally in international and/or interdisciplinary research collaborations.
4. An affinity for interdisciplinary work is required, for example at the intersection of human-computer interaction or AI ethics.
5. Connections to current research networks at the university, such as the CRCs “Media of Cooperation” or “Transformations of the Popular,” or to the research initiative “Critical AI and Data Studies” are an advantage.
6. Written and spoken German language skills are required. Very good German language skills (C1 level) are desirable; alternatively, a commitment to achieve C1 level within two years is expected. International applications are expressly welcome.
