While considerable progress has been made in the past in generating electricity from renewable energies and innovative technologies for electromobility have been developed, the focus is now shifting to the decarbonisation of industrial processes. Efficient heat pumps for the provision of process heat are making a significant contribution to this. An economically viable transformation of industrial process heat supply to low-carbon technologies is the motivation for the work at the DLR Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes at the Cottbus and Zittau sites.
What to expect
The High Temperature Heat Pumps department develops and researches heat pumps with very high sink temperatures above 150 °C as an approach to reducing CO₂ emissions caused by process heat generation using fossil fuels (mainly natural gas). The Experiments Rankine HTWP group of the High Temperature Heat Pumps department is responsible for the experimental operation of the ZiRa pilot plant and other associated test plants and for formulating and processing the research questions of the experiments on these plants.
Your tasks
* management and further development of the "Experiments Rankine HTWP" group in the HTP department
* construction, commissioning and experimental operation of an innovative and novel HTWP pilot plant with the reverse Rankine process and water as working fluid
* expansion of this plant into a unique power-to-heat centre for industrial heat
* helping to shape the scientific direction of the department in the field of Rankine high-temperature heat pumps
Your profile
* completed scientific university degree (Master's degree / university diploma) in engineering (e.g. mechanical engineering, physical engineering, etc.) or other degree programmes relevant to the position
* knowledge or practical experience (2-3 years) in the field of experimental research on thermal engineering systems, e.g. acquired through a doctorate or other proven research activities
* very good expertise in test operation, in analysing the results of experimental thermodynamic issues and in the field of industrial heat pumps as well as the corresponding thermodynamic and plant engineering issues
* experience in the technical management of teams or groups
* good knowledge in the acquisition of third-party funded projects
* very good knowledge of German and at least good knowledge of English
Remuneration will be paid up to pay group 14 TVöD depending on qualifications and tasks assigned.
