The Group Electron Beam Analytics within the Department of Analytics is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) - Development and implementation of an automated workflow for multi-element deportment analysis using TIMA (TESCAN SEM).
Your tasks
* Development of an automated workflow for deportment studies based exclusively on SEM-based mineralogical data
* Implementation of the automated workflow into the control system of the TIMA instrument for a freely definable number of chemical elements
* Estimation of the overall uncertainty of the methodology based on independent analytical data and bootstrapping-based statistical methods
* Estimation of the relationship between analytical effort and total uncertainty in order to make the methodology applicable to different commodities
* Scientific publication activity
Your profile
* Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of Geosciences, Applied Geosciences or related field
* In-depth knowledge of mineralogy, economic geology, and geochemistry or closely related fields
* Experience in the use and operation of SEM-based systems for automated mineralogy, in particular the TIMA system, is an advantage
* Experienced in data analysis, including image-based and composition analysis
* Familiarity with the assessment and management of uncertainties in geological and analytical research
* Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, combined with a commitment to developing and implementing innovative automated analytical workflows
* You have good communication skills and you enjoy working in an international team
* Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written; knowledge of German is an advantage but not a requirement
* Confident knowledge of general software solutions for data management and processing
* Knowledge of Python and R is an advantage
