PhD Student (gn*)

Job Id: 11029

Limited to 3 years | Part-Time with 65% | Salary according to TV-L E13 | Institute of Molecular Tumor Biology

We are UKM. We have a clear social mission and, with our focus on healthcare, research, and teaching, we bear a unique responsibility.

To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise at the Institute of Molecular Tumor Biology – ideally with you on board!

Our internationally renowned research team investigates cellular programs of gene control, epigenetics and signal transduction of mammalian cells, with a focus on cells of the innate immune system such as macrophages and neutrophils. In particular, we explore mechanisms of malignant transformation, cellular differentiation and the control of immune cell effector functions. Such understanding is essential for the development of new therapies against cancer and infectious diseases. Further information on our work can be found on our homepage and in our publications .

We are currently looking for a highly motivated researcher who is interested in obtaining a PhD degree in the field of molecular immunobiology. We offer a cutting-edge research project on the epigenetic role by transcription factors in the immune functions of neutrophils. Neutrophils are the most abundant circulating leukocytes and form an essential line of defense against microbial infections. Importantly, neutrophils are involved in inflammatory diseases and cancer, making them an exciting new therapeutic target in the clinic.

The applicant should have a master's degree in biology or biochemistry. He/she/they will learn and apply state-of-the-art molecular and cell biology technologies established in our team, ranging from in vivo disease models to multi-omics and single cell analysis. Applicants should have experience with tissue culture and standard molecular biology methods. Basic knowledge of computer programming (using the R software environment) and hands-on experience working with laboratory mice would be an advantage. Good knowledge of the English language is required.

For inquiries, please contact: Prof. Frank Rosenbauer, T 0251 83-53312

Apply now via our career portal until 03.09.2025.
