Whether it’s aircraft, international business or offshore wind parks, Allianz Commercial has an extensive range of risks covered when it comes to protecting businesses.
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Global Head of Risk Management to join our executive leadership team and drive our comprehensive risk management strategies. The role is based in Munich (Germany).
Allianz Commercial is a trusted partner for a wide range of tailored commercial and specialty insurance solutions designed to protect MidCorp, Specialty and LargeCorp businesses. Formerly known as “AGCS,” this new franchise is Allianz Group’s integrated global model for serving the Commercial Property & Casualty insurance segment.
The Team
You will sit in a newly created unit and report to the Chief Risk and Resilience Officer (CRRO), a Board Member of Allianz Commercial. As the Global Head of Risk Management, you will lead an integrated and diverse team of 8 direct reports and approximately 35 experts focused on Solvency Steering, Enterprise Risk Management, ALM & Investment Risk Steering, as well as Underwriting Risks. The scope covers the legal entity of AGCS SE and its subsidiaries, including Asian branches, AGR US, and ART AG.
The Impact You Will Have
The Global Head of Risk Management is responsible for developing and implementing a robust enterprise risk management framework. You will ensure the company's financial stability, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth by proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all business units. Your strategic, collaborative, ethical, and transformational leadership will enable you to steer the organization effectively in a complex and evolving risk landscape.
Scope of responsibilities
You will lead the development and implementation of risk management strategies, ensuring their integration into business planning and decision-making processes. This involves overseeing risk identification, evaluation, and mitigation to protect financial performance, reputation, and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities include managing the global risk profile, maintaining an integrated control system, fostering a strong risk culture through training and communication, overseeing insurance programs, collaborating with internal audit, staying updated on industry trends, and leading the risk management team to address emerging risks.
Your role ensures independent risk oversight and transparency, recommending, maintaining, and reporting on AGCS' Risk Strategy. You will work with the CRRO to develop a Global Risk Management Communication Strategy with the Board of Management and Risk Committee.
Additional duties involve establishing risk policies and processes aligned with Allianz Group and local regulatory requirements, developing risk measurement frameworks for various risks, and managing accumulation controls with independent reviews.
You will participate actively in the management team of the Allianz Commercial CRRO Management Team.
Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the Group, especially with Group Risk, and the broader industry is essential. You will work closely with Compliance, Legal, Audit, and all business functions globally and regionally.
Your commitment to maximizing people's potential involves creating strategies aligned with future talent needs, ensuring the CRO organization is prepared for upcoming challenges. This role emphasizes building and nurturing a high-performing team and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications include extensive senior management experience within an insurance company, deep understanding of risk management for international portfolios, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and enterprise risk frameworks. Proficiency with risk management tools, strong leadership, strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, and intermediate proficiency in AI are required. The candidate should have a proven track record in managing critical scenarios, turnarounds, restructurings, and redesigning complex processes, with a history of delivering sustained value.
Conflict management skills, fact-based decisiveness, organizational and communication excellence, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are essential. Fluency in English is required, with additional languages advantageous. The role involves regional and international travel as needed.
