NextGO Epi is an innovative spin-off project supported by the Leibniz Institute for Crystal Growth (IKZ), specializing in the development of high-quality, large-size Gallium Oxide epiwafers. Role Description
This is a part-time (at least 8 hours per week), on-site role for a HiWi / Student Assistant (m/f/d) based in Berlin, Germany. The primary tasks will include supporting research and development activities, assisting in the growth of epiwafers, conducting process monitoring and data analysis, and performing administrative tasks where needed. You will be working closely with a team of experts, contributing to the advancement of innovative material technologies.
The key responsibilities of the student assistant will include:
* Wet-chemical etching (including hot phosphoric acid [H3PO4] and hydrofluoric acid [HF])
* Tube furnace annealing
* Atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements
* Light microscopy measurements
* Comprehensive documentation
The applicant must have the following minimum qualifications:
* The candidate must be a registered student at a German university
* The candidate must be located in the Berlin-Brandenburg region (work in person)
* Experience in experimental work from the first lab courses (basic lab internship)
* Ability to handle chemicals safely
* Ability to communicate in English or German (both verbally and in writing)
In addition, some of the following skills and qualifications would be preferred:
* A bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, crystallography, materials science, or a related discipline
* Basic knowledge of fundamental and solid-state physics from lectures
* Basic knowledge of epitaxial growth from lectures
What we offer:
The position is at the Leibniz Institute for Crystal Growth (IKZ), and you will have the opportunity to work with an international team of renowned scientists. Moreover, you will gain first-hand experience in the commercialization of deep-tech research, witnessing how cutting-edge semiconductor materials are transitioned from a laboratory setting into a high-growth startup environment. The position is considered a student mini-job with at least 8 working hours per week at an hourly salary of 14,84 €. Working hours are flexible and can be arranged between 9 am and 5 pm from Monday to Friday.
We are open to offering suitable candidates the opportunity to work on a masters thesis, independent of the student assistant position. If you are looking for an internship, we are open to discussing it.
