Process Equipment Sourcing Specialist

A leading industrial company operating in the chemical and process engineering sector is looking for an Equipment Sourcing Engineer / Technical Procurement Engineer to join its team in Luxembourg / BENELUX region .
This is a key role bridging process design and procurement, ensuring that equipment specifications are correctly interpreted, optimized, and translated into actionable procurement inputs.
Your Mission
As Equipment Sourcing Engineer, you will act as the technical authority between engineering and procurement teams. Your goal is to ensure that all procured equipment fully aligns with process requirements, safety standards, and material compatibility , while driving cost-performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Evaluation & Engineering Support
Review P&IDs, datasheets, and process specifications to extract required parameters (capacity, flow, pressure, materials)
Evaluate compatibility of proposed equipment with process design and plant standards
Identify possible substitutions or parameter adjustments without compromising quality or safety
Propose value engineering options (cost, reliability, maintainability)
Deliver ranked short-lists with recommendations to process engineers for final approval
Participate in engineering discussions and advise on equipment-driven solutions (availability, logistics, lead times, reliability, performance)
Gather input from maintenance, operations, and engineering teams on equipment performance; compile comprehensive "lessons learned" reports
Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in equipment operation
Supplier Interaction & Market Engagement
Engage with suppliers to obtain technical proposals, clarify specifications, and negotiate from a quality and engineering perspective
Evaluate supplier proposals critically, assessing alternatives, substitutions, and deviations
Pre-qualify suppliers and build a robust vendor database
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with key stakeholders (process engineers, maintenance, operations, procurement) to determine product and service requirements
Bridge engineering and procurement functions, eliminating ambiguity and ensuring aligned assumptions and priorities
Requirements
Your profile
Education
BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Process Engineering
Experience
5–8 years of experience in chemical, petrochemical, or process plant design, equipment specification, or technical procurement
Technical Skills
Reading and interpreting P&IDs, isometrics, and mechanical drawings
Strong understanding of process parameters (flow, pressure, temperature, materials)
Proficiency in AutoCAD, NavisWorks
Advanced MS Office skills, particularly Excel
Languages
English: B2 minimum
Soft Skills
Analytical thinking and structured problem-solving
Excellent collaboration skills with process engineers and cross-functional teams
Clear and concise technical communication
