Hauptaufgaben Independently prepares sub-surfaces and repairs pavement, of road, street, parking areas, sidewalk or other similar areas, covered with asphalt, concrete, bitumen, paving, paving stones, etc. Determines/measures area of work and erects safety devices. Operates compressed air hammer or other hand tools to break old pavement. Prepares sub-surfaces prior to laying the final pavement. Operates concrete mixing and tar-heating machines. Applies proper materials to sub-surfaces in the required grade and thickness. Repairs road/surface drainage systems, removes obstructions, cuts and replaces cracked or damaged and drains. Operates sprayer and slag spreader. May be required to drive military vehicle in performance of official duties and is part of the Snow & Ice removal team. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be skilled and experienced in completing repairs to damaged surfaces covered with various materials, such as concrete, tar, bitumen, paving stones. Must be skilled in using machine and hand tools common to the trade. Must be knowledgeable of the construction of pavement and the techniques of repairing them, to include proper foundations required, material mixture ratios, and selection operation of appropriate machinery. Receives work assignments from supervisor orally or in written work orders. Determines work to be done, selects material and tools necessary. Decides when sub surfaces are sufficiently compacted and contoured. Determines other necessary repair work before final surface is applied or reapplied. Completed work is checked for, adequacy and conformance to requirements. Incumbent frequently lifts up to 15 kilogram pounds and occasionally equipment or material weighing up to 25 kilograms. Work normally requires to stand, walk and bend while performing assigned duties. Must exert considerable physical effort while using pickax or air hammer to remove damaged pavement. WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent is required to work outside in all kinds of weather. He/She is frequently exposed to dust and dirt while working with asphalt, concrete, tar, sand, etc. The worker is subject to cuts and bruises and exposed to the danger of falls while working on moving equipment. Might be exposed to traffic accidents when operating a military vehicle. May be required to wear safety helmet and other protective devices (ear-plugs, gloves, boots, etc.) when warranted by the working condition.
