About the Project
Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an internationally operating nature conservation organisation based in Germany that has been supporting conservation projects in Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and Europe for many decades. In South America, FZS concentrates its effort on the Amazon rainforest and has expanded its engagement in the region in recent years.
For over 10 years, FZS has been supporting the Protected Areas Commission in Guyana in strengthening management of the national protected areas system with a particular focus on the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area (KMPA). Southern Guyana Coordinator (gn)
The position will be based in Lethem, Guyana, with frequent travels to the current and future project sites in remote protected areas in Guyana and the region. Support the Protected Areas Commission in their management of the KMPA by planning and supervising the field operation of FZS Guyana in the region and by helping to build local capacity for effective protected area management
Provide technical and practical support to relevant government agencies of Guyana in the development and implementation of management systems and operational processes of newly designated protected areas in Southern Guyana in close coordination with the FZS Country Coordinator Guyana
Represent FZS Guyana in Southern Guyana towards government partners, donors, partner organisations, local and indigenous communities in and surrounding project areas
Perform project planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, in close coordination with relevant colleagues and according to FZS internal procedures
Supervise the GIS and data management of FZS operations and partners and support FZS global monitoring and evaluation processes
At least seven years of working experience in protected area management or nature conservation project management in South or Central America, preferably in the Amazon
Proven experience in project and grant management, including proposal development, planning, budgeting and reporting
Willingness to travel internationally and to remote areas beyond regular working hours where communication and conditions can be challenging
Experience in MS Office programs; preferably knowledge in data collection and analyses using statistical and GIS software programmes
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese and/or German would be beneficial
