in the field of Environmental Analysis
The position is part of a collaborative research project between the Universities of Giessen and Kassel (Germany), Adaptation to Drought and Extremes: The Surface-Soil-Groundwater Buffer under Climate Stress (ADAPT). The main tasks of this position will be to develop and validate multi-analyte methods for detecting micropollutants and their transformation products in water, soil, and plant samples and is based at the Professorship for Food Chemistry and Food Biotechnology, Department of Food Chemistry and Food Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry. The position is limited for the duration of 42 months. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H).
Your tasks at a glance
* Development and validation of a multi-analyte method based on uniform sample preparation using solid-phase extraction (SPE) and determination via high-performance liquid chromatography in combination with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
* Investigation of water samples from sewage treatment plant effluents and samples from infiltration tests
* Adaptation of the methodology to other project-relevant matrices (soil, plants)
* Identification, isolation, and structural elucidation of new metabolites or transformation products in the different matrices
* Writing international publications and reports
* Co-supervision of student projects and theses
Your qualifications and competences
* Completed Master's or equivalent university degree with very good grades in food chemistry, chemistry, or environmental sciences with a focus on analytical chemistry
* Practical experience in HPLC-mass spectrometry of advantage, e.g., in a master's thesis
* A keen interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in a project network is expected
* Excellent communication skills in German and English, as well as in the organization and coordination of sampling
* Possessing a Class B driver's licence is an advantage
