What You'll Do
* Design, select, and validate hot and cold joining systems (e.g., laser welding, resistance spot welding, adhesive bonding, self-piercing riveting, clinching) for new and existing products.
* Optimize joining parameters to ensure structural integrity, repeatability, and compliance with quality standards (e.g., ISO, IATF 16949, OEM specifications).
* Provide expert technical support for all joining-related issues in production, including process deviations, quality defects, and equipment failures.
* Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for joining-related breakdowns and implement corrective actions.
* Collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve complex equipment malfunctions and reduce downtime.
* Develop and deliver hands-on training programs for operators and maintenance technicians on joining processes, safety protocols, and troubleshooting techniques.
* Maintain up-to-date training documentation and certification records.
* Lead internal maintenance and engineering projects related to joining system upgrades, line expansions, or technology transitions.
* Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including process flow diagrams, control plans, work instructions, and validation reports.
* Ensure all joining processes are traceable, auditable, and compliant with internal and external quality and safety standards.
* Drive innovation by evaluating new joining technologies (e.g., hybrid joining, advanced adhesives, friction stir welding) and assessing their feasibility for production use.
* Support new product introductions (NPI) by providing joining process feasibility studies and pilot testing.
What You'll Bring
* Bachelor's Degree in a Manufacturing Engineering related field, or equivalent experience
* Multiple years of experience with adhesive application and mechanical joining equipment and processes: Self pierce riveting, clinching, hemming, auto bolting, Laser welding, Resistance spot welding and Projection Welding.
* Hands-on robotics experience in an automotive environment
* Experience with Kuka or Fanuc robots and good understanding of robot integration in joining systems
* Proficient in CAD, Catia, and experience in 3D cand systems is a good addition
