Financial Controller / Head of Accounting – Europe (Shared Services)

€165,000 base + ~30% bonus (negotiable for the right candidate)
The Opportunity
This opportunity is being managed exclusively by Connect Group.
Our client is a global organisation within the life sciences and biotech sector, currently undergoing an exciting period of growth and transformation across its European operations. This newly created role will play a pivotal part in building and leading a regional shared services finance function, supporting integration activities, system implementations, and the standardisation of financial processes across multiple countries.
You will operate at the heart of finance transformation, partnering with senior stakeholders across Europe and globally, while driving best-in-class financial control, reporting, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
* Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across multiple European entities
* Ensure accurate and timely reporting under IFRS, local GAAP, and group policies
* Review journals, reconciliations, accruals, and intercompany transactions
* Deliver consolidated reporting, including variance analysis and insights
Statutory & Compliance
* Oversee statutory accounts and local regulatory filings across European jurisdictions
* Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and external providers
* Ensure compliance with VAT, payroll, and local reporting requirements
Shared Services & Transformation
* Build and standardise finance processes within a European Shared Services environment
* Drive process improvements, automation, and efficiency initiatives
* Play a key leadership role in ERP transformation (SAP / S/4HANA environment)
* Support integration of newly acquired entities and operating models
Controls & Governance
* Strengthen internal controls and ensure consistent application across entities
* Lead control reviews and remediation activities
* Maintain robust documentation of processes and policies
Leadership & Business Partnering
* Act as a key finance partner to regional and global stakeholders
* Provide commercial insight and support strategic decision-making
* Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team
Your Profile
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent)
* Extensive experience in financial control within a multi-entity, European environment
* Strong knowledge of IFRS and statutory reporting requirements
* Experience working in or alongside shared services structures is highly advantageous
* ERP experience (SAP preferred) and exposure to system implementations or transformations
* Proven leadership capability with experience managing and developing teams
* Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
