Hauptaufgaben

Performs initial, in processing and final inspections on a great variety of multi-fuel self-propelled combat equipment and heavy wheeled vehicles, subject to minor or major repairs, modification, rebuild, overhaul and repair of major components and combat equipment, including light and heavy tanks, self-propelled howitzers, tank-recovery vehicles, personnel carriers, and special purpose vehicles. Conducts driving tests for assigned personnel as required and serves as inspector of turrets and fire control equipment before, during and after repair and maintenance. Performs inspections on automotive repair work done by others. Inspects the functioning and interaction of power and motion elements, electrical, electronically, cooling, high-pressure hydraulic and suspension systems, instruments and condition of body and chassis. Diagnoses cause and extent of mechanical, electrical, and material defects. Estimates cost for man-hours and material. In case of damages other than fair, wear and tear requests preparation of report of survey or statement of charges. Classifies inspected equipment as to economically or uneconomically repairable. Inspects technical adequacy of completed repair work; makes final road tests. Renders explanation on maintenance procedures to pertinent personnel of permanent and/or frequently changing temporarily assigned organizations. After completion of final inspection, signs inspection reports certifying that vehicle is in satisfactory operating condition, or rejects the vehicle and returns same to repair shop along with specific reports prescribing additional repair which is required to bring vehicle up to a satisfactory operating condition. Has signatory authority to certify the safe operational condition and/or final disposition of the inspected vehicle and equipment.
Serves as the technical authority and primary specialist with responsibility for all equipment maintenance functions with the special task to serve as the interface within the organization. In this capacity provides leadership and direction to appropriate organizational elements, as well as technical advice and assistance. As necessary, routinely leads various teams and for short and medium range projects involving all facets of equipment and maintenance management, production management and control, and supply operations. Plans, coordinates, implements, and controls a wide variety of tooling and equipment (i.e. shop production equipment, special tools, industrial automated equipment, test measurement and diagnostic equipment, electronic, vehicular and maintenance equipment, etc.) used in support of specialized repair programs such as for Hazardous Cargo Transportation Equipment. Establishes shop floor milestones on production schedules and coordinates with other specialists/shop supervisors that they are met. Provides technical guidance to maintenance shops and other maintenance elements in correcting problems on changes in process documents necessary to support the input/update of history and/or active file data requirements. Assists shop floor personnel in performing analysis of non-conforming parts and recommends continued use, substitutions or disposal. Conducts evaluation of the overall programs and prepares program reports to staff sections, higher headquarters and staff managers advising them of maintenance program status and potential problems. Develops, prepares and schedules all verification/validation exercises of new or changed technical data, presenting accurate recommendations for changes or improvement in processes, procedures and/or equipment. Maintains continuous liaison with all internal maintenance sections and other facilities, supervisors, to ensure effective and proficient maintenance. Ensures that maintenance, repair and supply practices are followed with effective quality controls to include calibration standards. Monitors repair parts deadline rates, maintenance levels, and projected equipment workloads. Prepares and drafts up required documentations and part requirements for special program lines, e.g. Hazardous Cargo Transportation Equipment. Coordinates special program lines, amongst MAK stake holders, customer units, and higher Headquarters as required. Attends and actively participates in meetings with external parties and approving authorities regarding special program lines. Will operate STAMIS (e.g. GCSS-Army) in order to develop or accept and close out work notifications, which have been coordinated prior to.

Performs other duties as assigned.

C-5a:

1. Following qualification standards apply for internal placements.
E&T Levels I: 3 years of creditable experience type a, defined below; and 1 year of creditable experience type b, defined below.
E&T Levels II: 2 years of creditable experience type a, defined below; and 1 year of experience type b, defined below.
E&T Levels III A is creditable with a directly or closely related apprenticeship or specialization/certification to the trade of the position; PLUS 1 year of creditable experience type a, defined below; and 1 year of experience type b, defined below.
E&T level, III B, C PLUS 1 year of creditable experience type b, defined below.
E&T Levels IV A, B, and C, are creditable with a directly or closely related apprenticeship or specialization/certification to the trade of the position; no additional experience required.
E&T level, IV D is not creditable to use for substitution of experience. Individuals with these E&T Levels must demonstrate knowledge and experience in the trade of the position.
E&T Level V: creditable with a directly or closely related field of study to the trade of the position; no additional experience required. If the study is not in a directly or closely related field, the individuals must demonstrate knowledge and experience in the trade of the position.

Creditable Experience Type a: Journeyman or equivalent level experience in the trade or in a closely related trade that is to be performed in the position. Creditable Experience Type b: Experience as an inspector or specialist in the same or similar trade in the same or similar position. Creditable experience must have been gained at a level of difficulty that is comparable to the next lower grade.

Exceptions:

(1) Current employees in the same or similar inspector or specialist positions who have served one year in their current grade qualify for the next higher grade, regardless of their E&T Level. (2) Current employees who have served one year in a foreman position without official certification as foreman (Meisterbrief) in the same or similar occupation qualify up to the C-6 level. (3) In the absence of qualified applicants, a waiver of qualification requirements may be initiated in order to promote or reassignment current employees who have already been performing same or similar work.

2. Following qualification standards apply for external placement:

E&T level I, IIA, III B and C and IV D: Not acceptable for positions in this occupational series.
E&T Levels IIB: Only creditable with a directly or closely related apprenticeship or specialization/certification to the trade of the position; PLUS 2 years of creditable experience type a, defined below; and 1 year of experience type b, defined below.
E&T Level III A: is creditable with a directly or closely related apprenticeship or specialization/certification to the trade of the position; PLUS 1 year of creditable experience type a, defined below; and 1 year of experience type b, defined below.
E&T Level IV A, B, and C and V: Only creditable with a directly or closely related apprenticeship, specialization/certification or study to the trade of the position; no additional experience required.
E&T Level V: creditable with a directly or closely related field of study to the trade of the position; no additional experience required. If the study is not in a directly or closely related field, the individuals must demonstrate knowledge and experience in the trade of the position.

• Office automation skills are required.

• Applicants must be in possession of a German driver's license class B and CE.


LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL:

Beschäftigungsbedingungen

This is a permanent fulltime position (38.5 hrs./week).

Position may be filled at the C-5A or at the full performance level, C-06. The incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher or full performance level in accordance with regulatory requirements, upon completion of required training, and recommendation of supervisor.

• If requirement exists, the incumbent of this position is obligated to perform TDY within and outside Germany, shift work, weekend and holiday work.
