Job Overview
TE Connectivity's Adelberg facility is seeking an experienced Senior Product Development Engineer (m/f/d) to drive innovative and differentiated fine-pitch connector developments within our board connector portfolio. This role combines cutting-edge product development with extension NPI activities and sustaining support, focusing on breakthrough solutions for Automation Controls and Battery Electric Storage Systems (BESS) applications that address critical customer pain points and enable simplified assembly operations.
This position is based in Adelberg, Germany, and requires close collaboration with global engineering teams, manufacturing operations, and customer technical organizations. The role involves both independent technical work and cross-functional project leadership with regular customer interaction for technical support and development activities.
Job Requirements
* Lead innovative fine-pitch connector concept development targeting board-to-board and wire-to-board applications in Automation Controls and Battery Electric Storage Systems (BESS)
* Design and develop differentiated connector solutions that address customer assembly challenges and manufacturing pain points
* Create concept evaluation parts while adhering to Product Requirements Document (PRD) specifications and manufacturing constraints
* Drive iterative design processes through prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement cycles to achieve optimal product performance
* Lead extension NPI development programs from concept through production release
* Execute design verification testing (DVT) and validation activities for new connector platforms
* Coordinate with Manufacturing Development Engineering to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) principles are incorporated throughout development
* Support the existing fine-pitch board connector portfolio, including performance optimization, ECRs, troubleshooting, failure analysis, and VAVE initiatives
* Partner cross‑functionally with Quality, Process Development, and Procurement on FMEA activities, risk mitigation, and supplier qualification second source development activities
What your background should look like
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
* Several years of progressive experience in product development engineering, preferably in the connector industry
* Strong background in fine‑pitch connector technology, high‑density interconnects, and relevant automotive processes (APQP, PPAP, TS16949)
* Deep understanding of connector design principles including contact physics, material selection, and environmental performance requirements
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes including stamping, injection molding, plating, and assembly operations
* Proficiency in CAD tools (Pro/E, SolidWorks), PLM systems, and understanding of signal integrity principles and high-speed digital applications in industrial environments
* Understanding of Automation Controls applications including PLC interfaces, sensor connectivity, and industrial communication protocols
* Knowledge of Battery Electric Storage Systems (BESS) requirements including power management, thermal considerations, and safety standards
* Strong technical leadership, analytical problem‑solving skills, and ability to translate customer needs into technical requirements
* Excellent project management and communication skills, including validation/testing experience, relevant connector norms and standards in Industrial and Automotive landscape and knowledge of regulatory/product compliance/quality standards
