Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our AdTech tribe in Berlin.
You will act as a technical leader within our Demand Adtech Domain, driving the architectural vision of our next-generation AdTech products. This platform empowers restaurants and local shops to promote themselves and reach new customers at a massive scale.You will play a pivotal role in a geographically distributed tribe of over 14 squads. While our squads move quickly with a "we build it, we run it" principle, your role is to ensure these solutions are cohesive, scalable, and future-proof. You will bridge the gap between business goals and technical execution, optimizing the customer experience across more than 10 million orders per day.
Your Mission:
* Collaborate closely with Engineering and Product to define technical goals and deliver high value to stakeholders and customers.
* Lead architecture discussions across domains and tribes, representing the tribe in reviews and identifying improvements.
* Set high engineering standards through mentorship (especially for Senior and Staff engineers) and by leading with best practices.
* Drive future-oriented technical decisions via RFCs and similar tools, aligning teams on scalable solutions and improvements.
* Conduct regular reviews on reliability, scalability, and security at the tribe level.
* Champion Agentic coding practices across engineering teams, identifying adoption opportunities and establishing guidelines that improve developer productivity and system resilience.
Qualifications
* 15+ years of building and delivering scalable, distributed systems using microservices, APIs, and data processing (streaming & batch).
* Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure with deep AWS knowledge as well.
* Solid understanding of storage systems (SQL, NoSQL, caching layers) and streaming and data pipelines.
* Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, DataDog) with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and latency.
* Proven ability to lead technical initiatives across teams within a large engineering organization, mentor Senior and Staff engineers, and influence architecture at scale.
* Excellent written and verbal English, capable of clearly explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools and workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot), with a track record of driving adoption and building engineering best practices around AI-assisted development.
Nice to have
* Experience with AdTech systems, including low-latency ad serving, measurement and attribution pipelines, and large-scale auctioning and bidding systems.
