We ARE seeking a qualified Fiber Optic Cable Inspector for an ad-hoc role at a facility in Germany, a key site for submarine telecommunication cable production. This position focuses on third-party inspection and quality verification of fiber optic (FO) cable systems, emphasizing joint technology, system design compliance, and test specifications for subsea telecom networks. The inspector will perform hands-on assessments to ensure compliance with ITU-T, IEC, and DNV standards, contributing to low-latency, high-bandwidth connections. Indicative daily rate: €600-€800 (based on expertise). Tasks & Responsibilities: Inspect FO cable system production, verifying compliance of single-mode and multimode fibers (e.g., BendBrightXS) with design specifications for submarine telecom applications. Audit joint technology processes, including fusion splicing and universal jointing (UJ/UQJ), ensuring low insertion loss and watertight integrity for subsea repairs. Review and validate test specifications for optical performance, including attenuation, chromatic dispersion, and PMD, per ITU-T G.652/G.657 standards. Conduct secondary inspections of joint assembly workflows, checking tools, consumables, and quality controls to ensure reliable splicing and integration with hybrid cables. Monitor cable lay-up, armoring, and repeater housing integration, ensuring compliance for electrical-optical systems. Document non-conformities and provide recommendations to improve manufacturing quality and system performance for long-distance spans (up to 3500 km). Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), including OTDR and OSA measurements, to certify cables for subsea deployment. Support the projects risk assessments for shallow-water and deep-sea cable installations, ensuring durability under hydrostatic pressures. Requirements/Your profile: Technical diploma or degree in Telecommunications, Optical Engineering, or a related field; inspection certifications (e.g., CFOT or ISO 17020) preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience inspecting FO cable manufacturing, with core expertise in jointing technologies and test protocols for submarine telecom systems. Strong knowledge of fusion splicing, mechanical connectors, and UJ Consortium standards for subsea cable repairs. Familiarity with optical testing methods (e.g., OTDR, OSA) and standards for bend-optimized fibers (e.g., G.657). Secondary experience observing joint assembly processes in controlled factory environments, ideally for hybrid power-FO cables. Prior inspection work or similar telecom cable facilities (e.g., NSW division) is highly desirable. Proficiency in inspection tools and reporting systems for quality assurance documentation.
