Position Overview: We are seeking an exceptional scientist to join our T1/17 Immunology team as Translational T1/17 Immunology Lead. You will become part of an international, highly collaborative team with a strong passion for developing medicines that make a real difference in patients' lives. Our team is dedicated to advancing our understanding of type 1/17 driven diseases across therapeutic areas including Dermatology, Gastroenterology, and Rheumatology. The successful candidate will contribute cross-functionally to our research portfolio in the Immunology and Inflammation Therapeutic Area at Sanofi, with a focus on translating scientific discoveries into potential therapies. This position will be instrumental in advancing our research pipeline, consolidating our leadership in immunology across therapeutic areas, and drive innovative collaborations with academic and industry partners.

Main responsibilities:

1. Oversee translational immunology projects and lead cross-functional teams from target identification through preclinical development, focused on type 1/17 driven inflammatory diseases.
2. Develop and implement innovative translational research strategies to advance our understanding of immunological mechanisms in diseases like Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Hidradenitis Suppurativa, aiming to identify and validate new therapeutic targets and support progression of cluster portfolio.
3. Coordinate and integrate disease model expertise across in silico, in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo platforms to differentiate mechanisms in a disease portfolio early on.
4. Constantly innovate on new methodologies and models and leverage strong computational expertise to analyze and interpret complex data sets, including multi-omics, scRNASeq, CROPSeq, microbiome and spatial technologies.
5. Evaluate, establish, and lead strategic collaborations with key academic institutes and biotech companies to enhance our research capabilities and pipeline.
6. Represent translational immunology research in internal and external scientific forums, conferences, and collaborations. Drive the integration of precision medicine approaches in immunology research.
7. Mentor and develop more junior scientists, fostering a culture of creative teamwork, scientific excellence, innovation, and collaborative thinking.
8. Manage research budgets, resources, and timelines effectively across multiple projects and collaborations.
9. Ph.D. in Immunology or a closely related field, with a strong focus on type 1/17 driven inflammatory diseases.
10. At least 15 years of project leadership experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry. Track record of successfully advancing drug discovery projects across modalities from therapeutic hypothesis to clinical proof-of-concept and in managing a portfolio of projects.
11. Extensive experience in pre-clinical to clinical forward and back translation in immunological diseases, with demonstrated expertise in coordinating and applying in vitro, in/ex vivo, and in silico assays and models. Scientific excellence and leadership in translational immunology shown in academic, biotech and pharmaceutical setting by strong publication or patent record.
12. Strong precision medicine capabilities and understanding, including computational proficiency to analyze multi-omics data sets.
13. Ability to inspire, guide, and manage diverse teams of researchers and collaborators. Obligate teamplayer with strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across disciplines and with internal as well as external partners.
14. Strong work ethic and agile mindset, ability to deliver under pressure at high visibility.
15. Familiarity with state-of-the-art methodology such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNASeq), CRISPR screening (CROPSeq), organoids, multi-omics and spatial omics technologies.
16. Knowledge of German is a plus
