The position is fixed-term for a duration of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for a further 3 years (qualification position according to § 2 Sec. 1 Sentence 2 WissZeitVG; there is the possibility to acquire habilitation). Tasks:
1. Research work within the Heisenberg project „Principles of combinatorial algorithms“ incl. national and international collaboration with scientific colleagues
2. Publications in conferences and journals about obtained research findings
3. Supervision of student projects (doctoral, Master and Bachelor theses)
4. Support of teaching activities (exams, exercise classes, seminars)
Prerequisites:
5. Successfully completed scientific university degree and doctorate in the field of mathematics or computer science. The required qualifications must be available by the recruitment date at the latest.
6. In-depth knowledge in one or more of the following areas: discrete mathematics and combinatorics (graph theory, order theory, discrete geometry), discrete optimization, algebra, algorithms
7. Relevant publications in international conferences and journals in the area of discrete mathematics and/or theoretical computer science
8. Fluency in spoken and written English
9. Independent working style and a high degree of self-organization
Desirable additional qualifications:
10. Programming skills (. C++, Python, Mathematica, Sage or similar)
11. Experience in teaching and/or supervision of student projects
12. German language skills, or the willingness to acquire them (this is not a mandatory requirement)
