Lead – Content / Creative
It’s an amazing time to join Pocket FM as we continue shaping the future of audio entertainment both in the United States and globally. We are a leading audio OTT platform with a vast collection of series, podcasts, and audiobooks across a wide variety of genres.
With over 100k+ hours of content, Pocket FM has one of the largest libraries on the planet and we have grown a community of 100 million listeners, spending an average of over 150 minutes in-app every day. Total streaming of Pocket FM audio series now tops 4 billion minutes monthly.
The creative development team is responsible for adapting stories into audio series, putting the best team of writers on each show to ensure we get it right. We are looking for a Head Writer to lead the writers room for one of our upcoming Romantasy & Dark Romance titles.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
* Build and develop a high-performing creative team, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability.
* Oversee the development of scripted content across multiple genres, ensuring strong creative vision and adherence to quality standards.
* Provide ongoing feedback and guidance to writers and creative teams to ensure stories align with strategic goals.
Creative Oversight & Execution
* Lead the production of original scripted series from initial concept to ongoing execution, ensuring consistent quality and on-time delivery.
* Review outlines, scripts, and storylines, offering constructive feedback to maintain creative integrity and audience alignment.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for writers, authors, and literary agents, building strong partnerships and sourcing new projects.
* Generate and develop new show concepts, identifying unique opportunities to engage listeners.
* Manage and ensure timely delivery of all ongoing series scripts as per production schedules.
Collaboration with Business & Data Teams
* Collaborate with business teams to analyze audience engagement, market trends, and testing results to refine content strategy.
* Translate data insights into creative decisions and identify opportunities for storytelling innovation.
* Work with creative teams to adjust ongoing stories, scripts, and formats based on data-driven feedback to improve retention and performance.
* Participate in brainstorming and strategy meetings to define content objectives and execution roadmaps.
Innovation & Experimentation
* Lead experimentation across content formats, genres, and delivery methods to expand Pocket FM’s offerings.
* Develop scalable content creation playbooks incorporating best practices, creative frameworks, and efficient workflows.
* Identify emerging trends in the audio and podcasting industry to keep Pocket FM at the forefront of innovation.
Content Performance & Optimization
* Partner with business and analytics teams to track the performance of ongoing series and identify areas for improvement.
* Implement strategies to enhance audience retention, engagement, and overall growth through creative and structural adjustments.
* Oversee content cost management and ensure optimal resource allocation without compromising quality.
Qualifications
* 10+ years of proven experience as a Creative Lead, Head Writer, or similar leadership role in a content-driven organization, with strong expertise in scripted content (podcasts, audio series, TV, film, etc.).
* Demonstrated experience managing writers and creative professionals, with a hands-on approach to coaching and development.
* Strong ability to interpret and leverage data (performance metrics, audience insights, market trends) to inform creative strategy.
* Exceptional communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong cross-functional and external relationships (e.g., authors, agents, writers).
* Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high creative standards.
* Deep understanding of the podcast/audio content industry and a passion for innovation and storytelling.
