Who we are ...
At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are: offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. More than 400 employees – including around 100 students – from over 50 countries work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams on the development of innovative methods to accelerate the expansion of the wind energy and hydrogen economy, minimize risks, and increase cost efficiency. Do you want to join us in shaping a sustainable future?

This team is looking for you...
You will join the team in the Business Unit (BU) »Offshore Wind Energy« at the site in Bremen or Bremerhaven. We focus on the topics of sub-surface investigation, support structures, and wind measurement. We develop innovative methods for the offshore wind industry, particularly for the characterization of metocean and geological conditions at installation sites for offshore wind farms. As world leaders in the research and development of these topics, we use the methods we develop in commercial projects to benefit our industry customers. Our team consists of more than 60employees, predominantly employed in the scientific and technical areas, as well as around 30 students. We support each other irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, is particularly important to us.

What you will do

These duties await you...
As Head of BU for the topic Offshore Wind Measurement you will report to the Chief Technological Officer and be on the BU’s management board. Together with the Head of BU for the topic Sub-surface Investigations, Business Developers, and Scientific Coordinators, you will be responsible for the strategic development and management of the unit. You will also be responsible for developing and supervising two groups with a total of around 20 employees as well as the personnel management of the group managers reporting to you. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the personnel and budget planning of your division.

You want to impart your specialist knowledge, too?
You will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the metocean field within the unit. This includes the focus areas of LiDAR buoys, scanning LiDAR, and wind radar. Furthermore, you will provide orientation for the teams and offer support to further develop their topics. In addition, you will lead strategically important projects and contribute your experience and expertise to projects.

What you bring to the table

What is your specialist background?
You should have completed your diploma or master’s degree in a natural science or engineering field. Your experience in the wind energy sector (either from industry or industry-related research) has provided you with a global overview of the market and the state of research, particularly in the field of wind measurement. Your skills include the acquisition and management of research and development projects as well as personnel management at eye level and financial responsibility. Furthermore, you have in-depth expertise in the field of metocean for offshore wind farms (e.g., wind measurements, oceanographic measurements, remote sensing, or wind farm development).

Your profile is complemented by...
Ideally, you have a good understanding of the offshore wind energy industry and possess specialist knowledge in the field of offshore wind energy. You will employ your effective communication skills in your daily work with the team or in regular exchanges with international colleagues, customers, and partners. You are fluent in English – both written and spoken.

What you can expect

Your further development is very important to us.
You do not want to stay standing on the spot? We offer a wide range of qualification measures. Whether it be management development or technical and methodological further training, we will identify the right approach for you and support you on your journey.
