Job Description
Western Digital is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Quality Engineer to support and enhance our quality systems across the product lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
You will partner cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and business teams to drive continuous improvement, strengthen quality processes, and support compliance with global standards.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Planning & Systems
1. Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance plans, inspection procedures, and documentation
2. Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001 and internal quality frameworks
3. Support the continuous evolution of quality management systems
Auditing & Compliance
4. Conduct internal audits to assess process adherence and identify improvement opportunities
5. Support external audits, including supplier and customer audits
6. Drive corrective and preventive actions based on audit findings
Quality Reporting & Analytics
7. Define, track, and analyze key quality performance indicators (KPIs)
8. Prepare and present reports to management with actionable insights
9. Leverage data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
10. Partner closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams
11. Ensure quality is embedded throughout the entire product lifecycle—from design through production and delivery
12. Act as a key interface between technical and business stakeholders
Process Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
13. Monitor production processes and identify defects or deviations
14. Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
15. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies
Qualifications
Education
16. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
Experience
17. Proven experience in quality assurance or quality engineering, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Technical Expertise
18. Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including:
FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
Six Sigma / Lean methodologies
SPC (Statistical Process Control)
8D problem-solving process
19. Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001
Skills
20. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
21. High attention to detail and process discipline
22. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
23. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, global teams
Languages
24. Business fluency in German and English (written and spoken)
