About the Role
The Lead Functional Safety Engineer will guide the Harman software, hardware, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure that all needed Safety properties are considered, implemented, and validated before launching the HARMAN product for customer GM in-vehicle deployment. This is the first product at HARMAN to fulfill the highest level of Safety requirements: ASIL D and fail operational.
In this cross-divisional function you will be the primary contact for Functional Safety towards the customer and continuously report the status to the overall HARMAN program management. Based on your broad experience you will prepare and propose appropriate measures to protect HARMAN from liability risks related to Functional Safety. This includes active risk management with parallel escalation path to HARMAN Automotive Senior Leadership Team, also paying attention to the significant lifetime sales.
What You Will Do
1. Conduct Safety Management for an ASIL D customer application project including continuous planning and reporting of the functional Safety activities and status.
2. Actively drive risk management and if necessary, prepare and follow measures to closure.
3. Elicit, document, and review Functional Safety requirements ASIL) in line with architectural definition: external with customer and supplier; internal with HARMAN engineering disciplines.
4. Consult our customer for design pattern which enable ASIL D performance of fail operational systems.
5. Execute Safety analyses according target architectures and determine Safety performance.
6. Guide the SW and HW development teams for effective Safety engineering.
7. Plan & assess the product development status for functional safety at various stages of the product lifecycle.
8. Consider machine learning aspects for Functional Safety requirements and methods.
9. Consider and align Functional Safety needs with Cyber-Security solutions.
10. Derive and align the necessary verification and validation activities with internal and external partners.
11. Take drive and leadership to continuously improve engineering workflows based on state-of-the-art tools for Safety & Cyber-Security in relation to the framework including a scalable Safety Mechanism portfolio.
What You Need to Be Successful
12. Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent.
13. Mature experience (>10 years) in building and maintaining customer, supplier relationships combined with strong technical leadership capabilities on the subject matter Functional Safety.
14. Proven team player skills, effectively working in global organizational settings with excellent communication skills including the capability to address the senior management level.
15. Profound experience in Safety critical systems and the related standards (ISO26262, ISO21434, ISO21448), best known methodologies to implement Safety properties up to ASIL D and fail operational.
16. Profound knowledge in Systems-Theoretic-Process-Analysis, Functional Safety analyses FTA, FMEDA, DFA, FMEA and Hazard and Risk Analyses etc.
17. Methodical, structured work style and experience in translating strategies into actionable plans.
