As a Structural Mechanics Calculation Engineer (m/f/d), you will be responsible for the structural calculation and experimental validation of locomotive components and support customer requests and approval processes regarding structural mechanics topics.
Your Responsibilities
* Perform structural mechanics calculations for locomotive components (static, endurance limit and variable amplitude fatigue strength, specification of type tests)
* Analyze and evaluate welded assemblies, bolted, adhesive and riveted joints
* Create and document required evidence and reports in accordance with QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) and project specifications
* Review and validate bills of materials and drawings
* Define and coordinate calculation-relevant requirements for components and with suppliers
* Propose design improvements for calculated parts
* Support measurement campaigns for endurance limit and variable amplitude fatigue strength
* Ensure compliance with Alstom internal processes, methods, and tools in the field of Structural Integrity
* Apply and further develop calculation methods and processes to ensure the quality and acceptance of results (internal/external)
* Verify supplier calculations and support technical clarifications with customers, suppliers, and certification bodies
* Actively contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge exchange within the international Alstom Engineering network and standards committees
* Create, manage, and monitor work packages for other Alstom sites to achieve cost and quality targets. Actively contribute to improving cross-functional collaboration
Your Profile
* Completed degree in mechanical engineering (Master of Science or equivalent), ideally with a focus on structural mechanics or strength of materials
* Experience with finite element Analysis
* Initial professional experience in structural mechanics calculation, preferably in the railway sector
* Solid knowledge of structural design, calculation methods, materials, and manufacturing processes
* Proficient in MS Office and common calculation and simulation tools (ideally Hyperworks & OptiStruct)
* Good German and English skills, both written and spoken
* Analytical, structured, and solution-oriented working style
* Team player with independent and responsible work ethic
* Good communication skills and ability to present complex technical topics clearly
* Goal-oriented, proactive, and hands-on mentality
