About the Role
As a Database Administrator (m/f/d) you will take ownership of our primary Oracle ExaCS environment. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our geo-distributed database infrastructure while leading consolidation efforts for our legacy Oracle databases. Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and maintain the Oracle ExaCS database environment, including monitoring, tuning, backups, recovery, and high availability configurations.
2. Administer Oracle Database features such as Data Guard and snapshot standby to support geo-distributed operations and development workflows.
3. Leverage Exadata-specific expertise to optimize performance, storage, and resource utilization in a cloud-based setup.
4. Lead the consolidation of on-premises and OCI VM-based Oracle databases into the ExaCS solution, minimizing downtime and ensuring data integrity.
5. Collaborate with development and operations teams to troubleshoot issues, implement best practices, and support data-driven applications.
6. Provide occasional support for PostgreSQL environments as part of our hybrid database ecosystem.
Who you are
Required Qualifications and Experience
7. Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
8. 3+ years of hands-on experience in Oracle Database administration (version 19c or later), with deep knowledge of core administration tasks including installation, patching, performance tuning, and security management.
9. Experience with Oracle Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS), including deployment, configuration, and optimization in geo-distributed environments as well as familiarity with Exadata hardware and software features (e.g., Smart Scan, Compression, ...) are of advantage.
10. Strong working knowledge of Oracle Data Guard for real-time data replication and failover, including configuration and management of snapshot standby databases for development and testing.
11. Experience with Oracle database consolidation projects using rman and/or datapump, including post-migration validation.
12. Proficiency in SQL/PL-SQL, shell scripting (Bash/Perl), and tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), RMAN, and AWR reports. Comfortable with Linux/Unix operating systems.
13. Fluent in English, both written and spoken, to communicate effectively within an international team; German language skills are a plus but not mandatory.
14. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Have Skills
15. Familiarity with market data systems, high-volume transactional workloads, or compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, SOX) in a regulated industry.
16. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) for database provisioning and CI/CD pipelines.
17. Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) in Database Administration, Exadata certifications, or equivalent.
