Join to apply for the Principal Systems Engineer role at Odys Aviation
Our mission at Odys is simple - we build safe, sustainable aircraft to cut travel time in half on the world's busiest corridors. Our flagship aircraft Alta enables travelers to skip the big-airport hassle by using city helipads and local airports to connect cities less than 1,000 miles apart (approx 40% of flights). On average, we reduce CO2 emissions by 76% over tens of billions of flight miles globally.
We also develop our UAV, Laila, for commercial logistics, medical transport, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and defense missions. We plan to deploy aircraft with launch partners starting in late 2025, with firm orders already under contract. Our team comprises expert engineers from deep tech and aerospace backgrounds, focusing on rapid iteration, aircraft certification, and innovative transportation solutions.
About The Role
Are you passionate about cutting-edge aircraft design and ensuring system safety and reliability? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment that involves trade-offs, system optimization, and cross-disciplinary collaboration? If so, we invite you to join us as a Design Assurance Engineer.
In this role, you will support the Chief Engineer in optimizing aircraft and system architecture, contribute to system engineering trade-offs, manage requirements, and improve processes. You will work closely with the Multidisciplinary Optimization (MDO) & Design Team to enhance system efficiency, workflows, and integration across engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities
* Co-lead system-level trade-offs, align aircraft design with system requirements, and ensure compliance with ARP4754B.
* Implement and maintain engineering tools like Flow Engineering, RQA Quality Studio, System Composer, and Capella for requirements, change tracking, and system modeling.
* Lead weight tracking, change management, and system integration, ensuring structured configuration control.
* Support regulatory requirements (MOCs) and integrate system safety with development assurance (DA) processes.
* Collaborate with MDO, airframe, safety, GNC, propulsion, and software teams to streamline workflows and certification processes.
* Track schedules, budgets, and system documentation to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
* Degree in physics, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
* Exposure to systems engineering principles, trade-off analysis, and multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO).
* Familiarity with change management and configuration control processes.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Highly organized with attention to detail and process-oriented thinking.
* Proactive, self-motivated, able to work independently.
* Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, and engineering collaboration tools.
Preferred Qualifications
* Understanding of aircraft architectures, safety, reliability, and system integration.
* Courses or certifications in systems engineering and requirements management.
* Experience with Flow Engineering, System Composer, RQA Quality Studio, and Capella.
* Knowledge of ARP4754B or willingness to learn.
* Coding skills in Python, C/C++.
