The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) is a globally renowned center for fusion research. With approximately 1,100 dedicated staff members in Garching near Munich and Greifswald, we are committed to exploring the fundamentals of fusion power plants. These power plants produce energy without climate-damaging emissions, are safe, sustainable, and nearly inexhaustible – much like the sun. Fusion power plants hold the potential to play a significant role in the energy supply for future generations.

At our Garching location, we operate the globally recognized and established large-scale experiment ASDEX Upgrade, a tokamak fusion facility. In Greifswald, we conduct research on the large-scale experiment Wendelstein 7-X, the world's largest and most powerful stellarator-type fusion facility.

Electrical Engineer (m/f/d) for High Heat Flux Test Facility GLADIS

to drive the technical implementation of the GLADIS Heavy Duty (GLADIS HD) project. The focus lies on upgrading the GLADIS test facility for long-pulse operation (≥ 30 minutes) to test components for future fusion power plants under realistic conditions.

Aufgaben
* Design and integration of the high-voltage power supply (Pulse-Step Modulation PSM) and control systems (Siemens SIMATIC)
* Development and optimization of power supplies for ion sources (RF sources, high-voltage tetrodes)
* Adaptation of diagnostics (e.g., UV camera systems, multispectral pyrometry) for long-pulse operation
* Collaboration with suppliers (e.g., for high-voltage systems, semiconductor technology)
* Ensuring project milestones (pulse durations up to 30 minutes at 20 MW/m² heat flux density)
Profil
* Completed degree (Bachelor's) in electrical engineering (or related fields such as physical or mechanical engineering, energy technology)
* Project management skills and technical documentation
* Team player with interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
* Good knowledge of German (at least B2)
* Fluent English (at least B2, project language).
* Experience in high-voltage engineering, power electronics, or control systems preferred
