The Institute of Zoology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Kiel University is seeking to fill a
W 3 professorship in Molecular and Evolutionary Zoology
as soon as possible.
The future job holder will represent the field of Molecular and Evolutionary Zoology in research and teaching.
A research focus in the field of molecular biology and/or cell biology and/or developmental biology of animals is required, with links to modern evolutionary biology. Specific examples of such a research focus could include the following topics: the molecular and cellular basis of reproduction and fitness in animals, the molecular and cellular basis of resistance to parasites/pathogens or environmental toxins in insects or other invertebrates, the molecular and cellular basis of animal-microbiome interactions, the influence of the microbiome on developmental processes or neurobiology in animals, or other topics in the field of molecular and evolutionary zoology. The applicant must demonstrate particular expertise in research through outstanding publications and successful acquisition of third-party funding.
The successful applicant will conduct research on topics that can be integrated into existing and future research initiatives at Kiel University and that complement the university's research priorities in a meaningful way, including the Kiel research priority areas Kiel Life Science () or Kiel Marine Science ()
1. and also including currently running research initiatives, such as the CRC 1182 () or the RTG 2501 ().
The applicant should have international collaborations, evidenced by joint publications and/or third-party funded projects. The applicant must have experience in zoological teaching (B.Sc. & M.Sc.), ideally in the field of molecular and/or cell and/or developmental biology, which should be evidenced by meaningful assessments or evaluations. It is expected that the successful applicant will contribute to Bachelor modules on developmental biology and cell biology. Teaching obligations are based on the applicable state ordinance on teaching obligations at universities (LVVO) of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The willingness to teach courses in German and English is a prerequisite.
The applicant should also have experience in academic services. Experience with research networks (e. g., DFG Collaborative Research Centers, Research Training Groups, or similar) is also desirable. Further requirements for the application are a university degree in biology or a related subject, a PhD, additional scientific achievements in the form of a habilitation or a successfully completed junior professorship or equivalent scientific achievements, as well as experience in supervising scientific work.
