The Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics FKIE with its approximately 500 employees offers committed people challenging and varied tasks with responsibility and creative freedom. The department "Information Technology for Command and Control Systems" (ITF) develops and tests architectures and interoperability solutions for complex information systems. In doing so, we work closely with users.
Our research topics include system-of-systems engineering, vehicle networking and fog/edge computing. One of the most important tasks is the further development of international standards in the field of interoperability of vehicle components as well as their verification and certification. In order to position ourselves more broadly for these tasks in the future, we are currently looking for research assistants.
What you will do
* Improving the interoperability of military land vehicle components (e.g. NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture)
* Contribute to future certification processes for vehicle subsystems
* Design and implementation of data models and interoperability solutions
* Design and implementation of demonstrators and reference implementations
* Work on projects for international customers with participation in all project phases
* Participation in international working groups and scientific exchange at international conferences
What you bring to the table
We are looking for scientific employees who
* want to familiarize themselves with future technologies
* have completed a university degree in the natural sciences in the MINT field
* have programming skills, preferably in Java or C++
* have an interest in proof-of-concept development
* have experience in at least one of the following areas
o UML modeling
o Middleware solutions such as DDS and MQTT
o Software development
o Architectures of interoperable solutions
o Verification of requirements and certification procedures
* Interest in participating in international projects and working groups and in contributing own ideas

The position is initially limited to 2 years. The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
