 
        Focused Energy is a fusion energy startup with the goal of generating unlimited clean energy to responsibly meet future global demand. The Senior Government Affairs Manager (EU/DE) is responsible for driving and coordinating Focused Energy’s political work in both Germany and Brussels. The role centers on cultivating and maintaining trusted relationships with key federal ministries, including the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Federal Chancellery, as well as with the Hessian State Chancellery. At the European level, the position engages directly with the Directorates-General of the European Commission (ENER, RTD,COMP) and with Euratom. Core responsibilities include drafting and presenting position papers, ensuring that Focused Energy’s views are represented in legislative and regulatory discussions, and coordinating the company’s contributions within industry associations such as FIA Europe and the Federation of German Industries (BDI). In addition, the role actively supports and follows political processes, including coalition negotiations, parliamentary hearings, and committee debates, providing expertise and recommendations to strengthen the company’s influence. The position requires 7–10 years of professional experience in Public Affairs, a strong background in energy or nuclear policy, and a well-established network within the Berlin and Brussels political ecosystems. Fluency in both German and English, combined with excellent communication and negotiation skills, is essential for success in this role. Mission: Drive engagement with German ministries and EU institutions, ensuring fusion is anchored in policies, funding programs, and regulations. Key Responsibilities: • Lead Focused Energy’s political strategy and positioning in Berlin, Wiesbaden, and Brussels. • Build and maintain strong relationships with BMWK, BMBF, Kanzleramt, Hessian State Chancellery, DG ENER, DGRTD, DG COMP, and Euratom. • Draft policy positions, consultation responses, and advocacy strategies that shape political and regulatory outcomes. • Represent Focused Energy in FIA Europe, BDI, Pro-Fusion, Wirtschaftsrat, and other key industry platforms. • Coordinate inputs to coalition negotiations, parliamentary hearings, and legislative initiatives. • Track and analyze EU and German funding programs (e.g., IPCEI, Horizon Europe, EIC, national innovation frameworks). • Brief executive leadership on political developments and provide strategic recommendations. • Organize and manage high-level political events, roundtables, and delegation visits. Profile / Requirements: • 7–10 years of experience in Public Affairs, Government Relations, or Policy Strategy, ideally in the energy, climate, or technology sector. • Strong knowledge of energy, innovation, and nuclear/fusion policy at national and EU level. • Established network within Berlin and Brussels, including ministries, agencies, and parliamentary bodies. • Proven ability to translate complex technical topics into political narratives. • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills. • Fluent in English and German; French is an advantage. • University degree in Political Science, Law, Engineering, or Economics. • High level of initiative, diplomacy, and strategic judgment.
