Legal Counsel Location: Hamburg, Germany Our client is looking for a Legal Counsel to support maritime operations within a global trading and logistics group. This role involves advising on chartering, marine insurance, and shipping claims, while serving as a key legal contact for operations and chartering teams. It offers a dynamic mix of legal advisory, contract negotiation, and claims management in an international setting. Key Responsibilities: Manage claims and arbitration proceedings arising from maritime and chartering disputes. Provide legal advice on voyage and time charter contracts and shipping operations. Review and negotiate charter party agreements and other marine-related contracts. Support internal teams with assessments of counterparties (vessels, shipowners, operators). Advise on marine insurance issues, including Additional War Risk cover. Maintain accurate records and administer ongoing claims processes. Requirements: University degree in law (preferably with a focus on English law or a dual qualification in Nautical Science or Maritime Studies). Solid understanding of maritime law, charter party agreements, and marine insurance frameworks. A minimum of 5 years' practical experience in marine claims handling, preferably gained in-house, at a P&I club, insurance broker, or shipping company. Commercial awareness and sound judgement in risk evaluation. Fluency in English is essential; additional language skills are advantageous. A self-motivated, solution-oriented team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
