Position Summary:The Medical Director provides clinical leadership and oversight of medical services across several community-based clinics operated by Caminar. The Medical Director will monitor and evaluate performance of frontline medical staff, including the use of KPIs to optimize staff performance and facilitate ongoing process improvements. The Director will also provide direct supervision to Medical staff based in several clinic locations and provide clinical guidance to clinic and program staff. Services are intended to provide stabilization and increased independence for clients with serious mental illness.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Provide medical consultation, education and leadership support to other staff psychiatrists and providers on the clinical team.
* Recruit, hire, and oversee training of staff Psychiatrists and nursing leaders
* Conducti quality and peer quality reviews,defineand maintain quality measures and regulatory compliance in collaboration with other compliance and quality assurance staff.
* Define, maintain and implement policies and procedures about medical processes and workflows that involve psychiatriccare
* Collaborate with other health care providers, community agencies, and organizations to coordinate care and referrals for patients with complexneeds
* Advise the CEO, Chief Clinical Officer and Executive Directors regarding the development and review of the Clinic's programs, positions, and budgets that impact clinical services.
* Participate with the CEO, Chief ClinicalOfficerand the Executive Directors in meetings with private and public payors, including Medical Directors or equivalent clinical leadership in payor organizations.
* Conduct two annual agency-wide training courses on medications and other topics as appropriate in collaboration with the Executive Director or trainingstaff
* Lead and define practice standards around recurring practice issues such as use of benzodiazepines, ADHD diagnosis and treatment, medication assisted treatment, harm reduction, and clinically inappropriate polypharmacy.
* Serve as a liaison betweenCaminarand regulators, payers, and referral sources specifically related to medical practiceissues
* In conjunction with the Chief Financial and Chief Clinical Officer, plan for and prepare the budget and revenue projections for the medical and nursing departments
* Participate in County or Payor Medical Director meetings on clinical policy andpractices
* Provide clinical leadership and support across service lines including outpatient specialty mental health, intensive specialty mental health, SUTS, LGBTQ, MHRC, and other programs that have a psychiatric program component.
* Prescribe medications as needed to cover clinic needs (e.g., help with refills or other med-related tasks on behalf of other psychiatrists when they are out of the office or unavailable)
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
* A medical degree from an accredited medical school
* A board certification in psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or equivalent
* A valid license to practice medicine in the state ofCalifornia
* Current DEA and CPR certification
* Knowledge of the following evidence-based models: Psychosocial Rehabilitation, ACT Model, Full-Service Partnership, Harm Reduction, Housing First, and Motivational Interviewing ispreferred.
* A minimum of five years of clinical experience in psychiatry in a leadership role
* A knowledge of current best practices, standards, and regulations in psychiatry and mental health care
* Experience overseeing psychiatry services in a variety of practice settings, including inpatient and outpatient programs.
* A strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
* Aability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, clinical leadership, line staff and senior leadership
* Proper documentation and proficiency in EHR systems
* Thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations.
* Medical ethics as they relate to patient care.
* Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including email and Internet navigation required. Experience with Human Service Information Systems strongly preferred. Experience with web-based time and attendance and staff training and development system is strongly preferred.

Position Requirements:
* Physical: Occasionally required to push/pull objects up to 50 lbs., and to lift/carry objects up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, etc. Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
* Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with residents and staff, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language.
* Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption. Must be able to attend a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time. Frequently required to understand and relate to specific ideas, several at a time. Must be able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several days.
* Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office) environments. Occasional exposure to toxins and poisonous substances, dust, and loud noises.
* Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone, and fax machine.
Essential Requirements:
* Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices.
* This position may require limited, occasional, or frequent driving. If required, a valid California driver license, a reliable personal vehicle, and current personal auto insurance is required by law. In addition, an MVR sufficient to obtain and maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements.
* Must be able to pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.
* If applicable, a personal cell phone with reliable service and a data plan to use for business purposes.
* May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
