Hauptaufgaben Performs Battlefield Effects (Artillery Fire Simulation) by use of Smoke Generators and Pyrotechnics Supports US- and NATO troops, when they execute their exercises at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC), or other Training Centers, by adding realism to the battlefield through the replication of indirect fires from artillery and mortars, employing pyrotechnics and smoke generators. If directed, replication of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) has to be performed as well as assessing of the impact is required (Battle Damage Assessment). To perform each of the mentioned scenarios, position incumbent receives the coordinates and the type of application via radio communication, drives immediately to this position, applies the respective type and amount of pyrotechnics, or performs with a vehicle mounted smoke producing generator man made fog (military "Smoke"), or positions firing devices for replication of IED's, and fires them due to requested type of IED. To be able to perform these duties, it is necessary that the position incumbent has to take part in a long term training, conducted in the employing activity, (Theory, practice, training in terrain). Has to pass successful the "Firemarker-Certification" test (Theory, practice), and has to gain experience, before incumbent is tasked to perform the "Firemarker" tasks independently. The position incumbent will be alone in a tactical vehicle, with a loading capacity of more than 3.5 tons, operating within the training area and/or on public roads and highways. Incumbent has to evaluate any possible risk hazard, which may occur (rough terrain, moving tanks, obstacles, limited visibility, etc.). Is required to have particular attention on soldiers especially under cover/camouflage. Requirements for Exercise support may take place the whole year, and for 24/7. Will be tasked either to operate a vehicle loaded with pyrotechnic or a vehicle with a mounted smoke generator. Has to apply all established Safety and Operational operating procedures. At the beginning of each workday/shift incumbent has to attend a briefing and obtains (if provided) supporting documents with duties and taskers for the upcoming shift. Obtains various equipment as required, which is issued from the sensitive item room, which are or include e.g. protective mask, global positioning devices, various types of radio communication equipment, Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) Controller Gun, night vision devices (Night Vision Goggles and/or Electronic Driver Vision Enhancement Systems mounted in Smoke Generator Vehicle), vehicle dispatch/logbook and vehicle key, firing devices and other required items. Inspects those technical devices for proper function in order to ensure mission execution. Identifies faults and takes corrective actions. Prepares related reports and forms. If tasked to be a "Firemarker" on that shift, incumbent is dispatched to the pyrotechnics storage bunker in order to load vehicle with the required pyrotechnics and secure the cargo. Pyrotechnical simulators are inspected to ensure proper functioning and save employment. In case that damage is detected or that a malfunction has occurred, position incumbent initiates proper disposal. Is responsible to execute corresponding reports and records. Makes radio contact with the control room and receives grid coordinates for destination. Upon arrival incumbent reports to be in position and ready for action to the control room. At shifts end, announced either from the control room or by allotted OC-T on a STX lane, incumbent either hands the pyrotechnics to replacement upon arrival on position or drives to the pyrotechnics storage bunker, to turn in unused pyro. Upon arrival at home station, deposits the pyro residue in accordance with pertinent rules. Turns in all received equipment as received at begin of shift. a. During STX (E-days) within a rotation, incumbent receives orders from the "lane master", a OC-T in charge for a specific STX lane, to which incumbent was detailed. Independently solves issues in conjunction with the establishment of first Link Up and/or results of briefings by OC-T, especially in conjunction with determination of best routes to reach given targets, exchange personal equipment if necessary, etc. As specified by the lane master, performs any replication of artillery/mortar fires, or smoke operations, by selecting the proper means. b. During FTX (X-days) within a rotation, receives all orders via radio communication from the command post. When getting positions to be occupied for mission accomplishment (replication of artillery/mortar fire missions), incumbent has to decide independently the best way to get there, and determine the most practical method of approaching and departing the target area. Fundamentals for the determination is a thorough knowledge of the terrain, land navigation methods, the current obstacle plan, information of the flow of exercise, as well as the determination of the condition of light and weather. May use a Global Positioning System as a navigational aid. Position incumbent has to safely operate duty vehicle in maneuver areas through open fields and forest areas, under adverse weather conditions such as snow, fog or rain; during night time, night vision devices are to be used as vehicles may be operated only with masked headlights. Has to be alert all times when performing duties in the training environment, in which incumbent might be forced to react immediately to suddenly appearing risks/dangers. Has to expect incoming orders/instructions at any time and has to react quickly to be able to reach a given grid point and mark the artillery/mortar fire mission within a 3 minutes timeframe. Performs Battlefield Reconnaissance either thru observations made during his movements on the battlefield or when directed to move out to perform this function. Findings must be recorded and reported in order to prepare an accurate obstacle plan, plan on location of troops and so on. Receives missions, together with type ("Firemission"/"Smokemission"), duration and location of the mission, and if applicable the number of casualties to be assessed. Simulates indirect artillery or mortar fire by selecting and igniting appropriate pyrotechnics, or operates the assigned Smoke Generator under consideration of all rules applying to smoke operations within the respective training environment, according to the mission to be performed. Has to be able to address and to discuss with OC-T on the ground, in English language, arising problems concerning missions performed or to be performed, or in regards to an executed assessment.
