Grob Aircraft has been designing and building aircraft in Bavaria for decades, from trainers and composite airframes to some of the most advanced aeronautical structures in the world. Engineering excellence and precision manufacturing are what we do.
Together with Helsing, our parent company and Europe's leading defence AI company, we are now taking on our most ambitious programme yet: the CA-1 Europa, Europe's first AI combat aircraft. This is not a study or a roadmap. We are designing, building, and testing, right now, right here.
The Role
We are looking for a Flight Mechanics Engineer to develop and validate aircraft models, perform handling-qualities work, and support flight control development across simulation and test. You will work at the intersection of aerodynamics, loads, flight controls, systems, flight test and certification.
This role suits engineers with a strong flight mechanics foundation, whether your background is in civil certification, military flight test, simulation development, or flight control support. What matters is that you understand how an aircraft behaves and can model, analyse and improve it.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement and maintain high-fidelity 6-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) simulation models for fixed-wing aircraft.
* Create and validate aerodynamic models (database generation/processing) from CFD, wind tunnel and flight test data.
* Conduct handling-qualities analyses and assessments (MIL-STD/ADS-33/CS-25/CS-23 considerations as applicable), run pilot-in-the-loop and metric-based evaluations; produce recommendations and design solutions.
* Support fly-by-wire/flight-control development: provide vehicle models and requirements input, design verification (simulations and piloted evaluations).
* Prepare and deliver technical artefacts for certification and verification: simulation reports, requirement traceability, test cases, qualification evidence, and support for flight tests.
Experience & Qualifications
* MSc (or equivalent) in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering.
* 5+ years of professional experience in flight mechanics, including certification work (CS-23/CS-25; military standards is a plus).
* Experience building and validating aircraft simulation models and processing aerodynamic data.
* Proven experience in handling-qualities assessment through simulation, flight simulators, and flight testing.
* Experience supporting Fly-By-Wire (FBW) or flight-control system development.
* Strong programming skills in Python and MATLAB/Simulink.
* Excellent English communication and presentation skills for engaging with technical teams and certification authorities.
* Experience with military aircraft (design, flight testing, or handling qualities).
* Experience with wind-tunnel testing.
What We Offer
* Your systems will fly on real aircraft. Direct collaboration with Helsing's AI and autonomy teams.
* 40-hour work week, flexitime, 30 vacation days.
* Company pension plan, accident insurance, disability insurance subsidy.
* Fly the Grob G115 in your free time (PPL holders) and access to the Grob flight simulator.
* Subsidised lunch, EGYM Wellpass, corporate benefits platform.
* Short decision paths, open leadership, no unnecessary bureaucracy.
