This project takes the concept of acoustic backscatter communication, already investigated by us, further and scales it up to larger structures and networks of multiple co-located devices. It aims to develop novel protocols for device discovery, routing, and medium access control (MAC), all optimized for the unique challenges of acoustic signal propagation through metal and wireless power transfer. The position is designed for pursuing a thematically related doctoral project (Ph.D.).It is expected that the Ph.D. student presents scientific results at international conferences. Involvement in the institute's teaching activities is possible.YOUR TASKSDesign of communication methods and protocols (particularly ISO/OSI layers 1 and 2) for acoustic backscatterDesign and implementation of embedded software and hardware for acoustic backscatter tagsDevelopment of simulation software for scientific evaluationPlanning, execution, and evaluation of scientific real-world experimentsWriting of scientific papers and presentation of results at conferences and other scientific eventsYOUR PROFILERequirementsCompleted scientific university studies, in particular in the subject of Computer Science or Communications EngineeringRequired Knowledge And Personal SkillsProfound knowledge in communications engineeringKnowledge in wireless networkingAdvanced, practical programming experience (in C, C++, Python)Experience in Embedded Systems, ideally microcontroller programming (beneficial)Experience in (analog) circuit design (beneficial)OUR OFFERa job in an interesting, friendly and appreciative working environmentflexible and family-friendly working conditions30 day vacation per yeargood public transport connectionsinternal offers for health promotionspecial conditions in further gymsAt the heart of TU Hamburg's research, teaching and transfer of technology is the guiding principle of developing technology for people.
