The Max Planck Research Group Systems Neuroscience and Neuroengineering at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics is jointly led by Max Planck Research Group leaders – Drew Robson and Jennifer Li (https://www.rolilab.com/). Our lab has two primary areas of focus – Systems Neuroscience and Neuroengineering. We develop novel imaging systems to record and manipulate neural activity in freely swimming larval zebrafish. We use these tools to gain a deeper understanding of the neural mechanisms that control internal brain states, such as motivation and attention. Broadly speaking, we are interested in the interaction between neuromodulatory systems and global brain states, as well as state-dependent modulation of decision making during behaviors such as navigation, foraging, and operant learning.

We are currently looking for a

Hiwi in fish facility maintenance

to join our lab with 8-16 hours per week distributed over 2-3 days per week, morning or afternoon. Minimal commitment of 6 months (following a 2 months trial period), and can be extended indefinitely.

Possible tasks

1. maintenance of aquarium tanks and equipment
2. monitoring fish behavior
3. updating databases
4. screening of genetic lines


Your profile

5. collaborative and detail-oriented student enrolled in a German university
6. training in molecular biology and genetics
7. interest in fish behavior
