Duties primarily include teaching and research. Research associates may also pursue further academic qualifications outside of their work responsibilities.
The Department of Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures is offering a research position as part of a one-year pilot project titled ‘Southeast Asians Germans’: Beyond the Migration and Generation Paradigm. Voice, Creativity, and Advocacy.”
The researcher will be responsible for collecting linguistic and visual data related to a self-declared “German-Southeast Asian identity” (primarily, but not limited to, Filipino, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Malaysian, and Thai) between 2000 and 2025. The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Elsa Clavé on the preliminary analysis of the data and the design of the future research project.
This position will include 2.6 weekly hours of teaching sessions in the department.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field.
1. Master’s degree in Southeast Asian Studies, or in linguistics, literature, geography, sociology, or anthropology, with a specialization or expertise in one of the Southeast Asian countries

4. analytical skills
5. interest in multiculturalism, multilinguism, and racism in Germany/Europe
6. knowledge of civil society networks in Hamburg and Germany
7. previous experience with artistic and cultural institutions in Germany
8. experience in knowledge exchange/transfer
9. previous teaching experience in theories and methods, and or academic writing appreciated
