We are seeking an experienced Customs Operations professional to join our Trade team in Wuppertal, Germany. The Customs Operations Lead will be responsible for the import/export compliance and operations program within Germany. This role focuses on leading Aptiv business in efficient and compliant operations in line with all import and export regulations, as well as all Aptiv internal policies and procedures, reporting to the EMEA Corporate Trade Director.
Your Role:
1. Oversee compliance with German Customs & Trade related legislation and regulations.
2. Oversee German Customs & Trade operations
3. Preparation of customs documents for import, export and special procedures
4. Broker Sourcing and Account Management
5. Establish, document and ensure periodic update of trade operations processes and procedures
6. Oversee communication and coordination with Customs authorities through Controversies and Audits
7. Develop and deliver training, cross-functionally, to relevant Aptiv stakeholders.
8. Support Aptiv participation in Supply Chain Security and Import Compliance Programs (eg, AEO).
9. Ensure appropriate maintenance of customs related records in accordance with Aptiv and Legal requirements.
10. Drive EMEA duty savings projects and initiatives with close collaboration with Corporate Trade leadership team
11. Conduct analysis on import/export data to identify potential duty mitigation opportunities
12. Collaborate cross-functionally (Supply Chain, Logistics, Tax, Finance, Sites etc.) to support corporate planning initiatives
Your Background:
13. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, or related field. Or similar, completed training (abgeschlossene Ausbildung)
14. Top-tier customs experience, including operational controls and oversight
15. 3-5+ years of relevant professional experience
16. Experience in HTS and ECCN classification assignment preferred
17. Technology and/or automotive industry experience is desirable
18. Experience with SAP GTS preferred
19. Dynamic global trade compliance professional who will utilise business judgment, prior experience, and creativity to understand the business and market dynamics, and implement effective strategies.
20. Experience with applicable import and export regulations, policies and procedures development, government interactions, valuation, trade programs and special regimes requirements.. Structured and analytical thinker, data-driven with strong technology capability.
21. Excellent communication skills, including concise verbal and email communication, clear visuals, and ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders.
22. Energetic, self-aware, independent thinker with exceptional leadership skills.
23. English and German fluency required, multiple language skills desirable
