Job Title: Tax Group Manager, Senior Vice President Business /Function: Finance Division: Global Functions Officer Title: Senior Vice President Work Location: Frankfurt, Germany Legal Entity : CGME Job Purpose: The Tax Group Manager will be the head of the Tax function in Germany, as part of the Finance organisation, requiring deep technical knowledge of direct and indirect taxes as well as being flexible in managing other elements of taxation that are relevant for a large multi-national financial institution. The role will be responsible for leading and directing a team of professionals based both in and outside of Germany including performance evaluation, compensation, hiring and budget approval. The individual will be comfortable working with and advising senior colleagues within the Bank, and be experienced in communicating with and managing relationships with tax authorities, regulators and advisors. Excellent communication skills are required in order to negotiate, often at a senior level, and the individual will need to be prepared to make decisions and for robust challenge in this regard. For this central leadership role, it is a great advantage if you possess a successfully completed qualification as a Steuerberater (m/w/d) / Tax Advisor (m/f/d), as this expertise is of crucial importance for the strategic alignment and practical implementation of our tax matters. Key Responsibilities: Responsible for the overall management of the tax liabilities of Citi Germany, including corporate taxes, VAT, withholding taxes and payroll taxes including the related compliance, financial reporting, planning and controversy processes. Presenting updates and technical positions up to and including Board level. Assist in determining and compiling information required to satisfy income tax filing and related requirements at all levels of jurisdiction. May participate in managing payments to tax authorities in compliance with specific tax regulations. Direct and control strategy and execution of the firm's activities within the Tax area, including assisting with such areas as transfer pricing, VAT, business taxes and other ad hoc queries that may arise. Recommend goals, policies, and plans for these areas with the most senior executives of the firm. Partner with the wider business teams to improve efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and / or control. Operate as a key member of the Citi Europe Tax Cluster team, and represents the firm in dealings with clients and external bodies. Manage and develop staff within the Tax function both domestic and international, as well as manages local relationships with advisors, regulators and tax authorities. Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards. Has the flexibility and tax technical skills to serve as a subject matter expert for other jurisdictions outside Germany. Will support local Finance colleagues in those locations, direct interactions with advisors and assist with tax policy decisions in other countries when needed.
